Usama was told by a woman at the ministry of marriage today that he has to go to several places in order to get the marriage certificate translated in the proper fashion. Well he's been to all but the last place. He went to the ministry of foreign affairs to get something then another place, blah blah blah then finally to the ministry of law where they took it and said to come back next Thursday at the latest when it will be ready. The last place the woman said to go was to the US Embassy.

Does anyone know why he'd have to take this translation to the US embassy? I have never heard anyone here or on egyptsearch talk about that before so I'm wondering if she's got it wrong. If he has to go there and he gets the translation on Thursday that means more waiting. Anyone? helpsmilie.gif

The last thing that I did, before I left Egypt after getting married, was to take the marriage papers, translations, etc back to the American Embassy to get the papers certified . . . something like that. I'll look for a link . . . I know I had it somewhere, but this was nearly 2 years go and their website has changed!

Oh ok. That makes sense then. I thought she meant he had to "submit" it to them which totally boggled my mind since then how on earth would I receive it.

Authenticated . . . that was the word that I was looking for! Paid a fee (about $30) and they stamped the docs, blah, blah. It is to authenticate the translator of the doc (if I remember correctly) . . . it doesn't register the marriage at the embassy, which isn't something you need to do as far as I know, LOL!!!

I can't find the link for that info that I printed off that mentioned the steps to get married in Egypt. . . I'll see if I filed it away with a bunch of other papers that I have been keeping.

FYI, I stayed in Egypt almost 3 weeks to get all the papers done . . . took a trip down to Luxor while waiting on the MOJ to do their thing. Barely squeaked thru on getting the translations to take back to the Embassy . . . last day before departure!!!

Oh please don't spend time looking for things. I'm sure it's just to get it authenticated. Thanks soooo much!!!!
