Called the doc to find out what shots I had on record and guess what I have one a tetanus that was given 1993 and now I have to do a titers or a series of titers to find out what shots are going to be needed.
I have read that some here needed supplemental shots in the States so my question is, where those supplemental shots beyond what is listed: Tetanus Diptheria, Mumps, Measles, German Measles (Rubella), Chickenpox (Varicella), Hepatitis B, and Influenza?
According to the UK Vaccination Chart all I need because of my age would be the Tetanus Diptheria, Varicella and Influenza shots.
Reading further I see that being born before 1956 I don't need proof of the MMR
Well I am hoping that the titers will prove that all that is needed is the Td booster, I am glad that the docs office said all short are covered by OHIP.

P.S. Any over 60 Canucks remember what vaciations they were required to have.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...tml#VaccinationVaccination Requirements
All applicants for immigrant visas are required to have the following vaccinations, if appropriate, for age, medical condition, or medical history:
Mumps
Measles
Rubella
Polio
Tetanus and diptheria toxoids
Pertussis
Influenza type B
Hepatitis B
Varicella
Pneumococcal
As a fiancé(e), you are not required to fulfill this requirement at the time of your medical examination for a fiancé(e) visa. However, you may want to do so. These vaccinations are required when you adjust status following your marriage.

I think tetanus 'expires' every ten years. At least that's what the doc told C.
At the medical they drew blood for an MMR titre and a varicella titre (plus HIV, and hepatitis). He's only 30, though, but those seemed to be the two they were worried about.

Kitkat,
Thank you for the list, I will present it to the doctor so she can have the proper tests done. I rather have everything done here, if there is a cost I am sure that it will be much less as the medical insurance here will cover most of what would be out of pocket in the States, it is bad enough that $250.00 has to be spent for something (medical exam)that is done without cost here.
Caladan,
Thank you also, I knew that the tetanus had a ten year lifespan, and one would be required, I'm sure that HIV is a big one that even I would be glad to hear was negative. I wasn't sure about what the supplements were that others where writing about and I do want to get everything possible done here. The list that Kitkat has posted is along the lines of what I was looking for and if anyone has anything other to add it would appreciated and welcome.

Hi Ron,
If you are under 65, these are the vaccinations that are required:
http://www.panelphysicians.com/Pages/Age6.htmIf you are over 65, then you need these:
http://www.panelphysicians.com/Pages/Age7.htmIf you had a tetanus shot in 93, you will need a booster, as they are only good for 10 years.
My doctor only had record of my tetanus shot too, so I had to get the titre test for MMR and chicken pox. It took about two weeks to get results back, so make sure to ask how long it will take them.

I am going for the Medical on tuesday. I have to bring my tetnus record, I do have that. I will have to get the titres done. I went yesterday to get my Tetnus record from the Health Unit, while I was waiting a guy walked in to get his Immunization records- he was born in 86 and they had his- he was in and out in 2 minutes with it. It made me mad they have no records on me or anyone in my age group.
I was able to get a letter from my childhood Doctor that I had Chicken Pox. It was in my file so I hope I can use that.
But I think all the Doctors who do the Medicals know exactly what they have to test for with the titres. I don't think you need to worry about anything. Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure you want to get your titre done before the medical, at least that was my understanding. I didn't know they would do titre test, I thought that if you went to the medical without any vac records, I think you have to pay to get them done?
They will take a verbal declaration from you that you have had chicken pox, so the letter will be more than enough.

Hi Mercy,
Thanks for replying. I am under 65, just barely for the moment. I have a printout of that list you attached but it seems to be short or just the basic and enough to get through the system, I'm hoping to get everything needed so nothing is required once get to the States. Why should we pay for the doctor's filet mignon down there we can have everything done here and eat filet mignon ourselves.
I have the time, I'm waiting for the RCMP and German certificates, I hope to get the packet 3 early next week since this is thier third try at getting it to me.

Hi Stay33
Mercy has a good point in having the titers done before the medical, otherwise you will have to pay for them and all requied shots, the clinc here I am going said everything was covered by OHIP in Ontario, I don't know if your provincial coverage would cover your though, no harm in asking.
I hope ll goes well and quickly for you at the medical.

No, I think those are the only ones needed. I had proof of some of the other vaccinations, and the doctor checked "Not age appropriate" for them. I've scanned my copy of the vaccination supplement I got at the medical (make sure to ask for a copy of yours for AOS), so you can see what I mean..

I asked the receptionist at the Doctors office. From what I understood, he will do the Titres and because I have Alberta Heath Care it will be no extra charge. I will phone and double check on Monday though.

Stacey, you're going to Dr. Chana, right? C. didn't have his vaccination records for the MMR, and he's had the chicken pox but has no records of it, and they just did the blood titres there on Thursday at no additional charge due to Alberta Health Care.

Just wanted to bump this instead of starting a new thread. I went to my doctor today about vaccinations (thanks Mercy for linking what people need to get here) and thankfully that list is a lot shorter than I thought it would be.
Unfortunately my mom threw out my old vaccination records when I was a kid and the city doesn't have complete records on file (mine isn't there) and our family doctor retired years ago. So my doctor took some blood for MMR and TD antibody titres. I know I need a booster but we still need to show history of having the primary set or whatever. So I go back in 2 weeks for my booster after the titres come back.
I'm glad that they take a verbal declaration of chicken pox too at the medical (had that when I was 14).

I had to get a MMR shot here in the US, because I never had it in Canada. Also a TD booster shot. I was lucky though, my Health Insurance paid for them.

I just had the titres for the vaccinations that are on the list, and got a TD booster shot. I showed immunity to everything they required you to be immune to, so there was no way I'd have unneccessary vaccinations. My doctor's office wouldn't even give a shot for any of those until titires are done. In Canada, there's no need to. We have all those when we're kids so we can go to school. Its law.

That is the main reason it is hard to get Records here. If you went to school here, it is just assumed you have all your shots. They keep some records from certain years, but not the years I needed.
I wasn't allowed to get the Medical yet. The girl in Montreal said I could get it done with with my NOA1, but she was wrong. That's ok, it only took a few days to get into see the Doctor anyway. I did end up going to get my Titres though. I thought I'd get it done now and if by chance there is something else I need, I have time.

Thanks to KitKat1's list
Mumps
Measles
Rubella
Polio
Tetanus and diptheria toxoids
Pertussis
Influenza type B
Hepatitis B
Varicella
Pneumococcal
I went to see my Doc and she gave me the MMR said there was no harm having it done again since there is no record of my having itin the first place, also got the Influenza short a week to late to do any good but at least it will look good on paper. The Td is still good for another 6 years contrary to the previously stated 1993 for the last shot. Blood was drawn and sent to the lab will get the results in about two weeks to see if other shots will be required. As for the varicella there is no denying I have had that since 2 years ago I got shigles and you can't get shingle unless you have had chicken pox, now I'm wondering if I will need a shot for the varicella in order to not get shingles again.
On the down side for those of you who smoke this is a good time to think of quiting, myself after 50 years of smoking my viens have shrunk to the point of having to take the almighty asa daily to reduce chances of clotting and further complications. Not only have the viens shrunk but either a vien or artery in the abdomen is abnormally large and now I am scheduled for ultrasound. Doctors re such wonderful people aren't they, you feel like a teenager going to their office and a senior citizen when you leave.
God bless you all and hope everything is working well for you

I quit smoking before I left Canada because I don't like the taste or smell of American cigarettes. I s'pose I'm healthier for it too but that was my main reason for quitting.

C. is a half-a-pack a day smoker in Canada, but on visits here it drops to about a quarter pack a day, because he's not allowed to smoke in the house, and he's also trying not to run out of his Canadian cigarettes because he doesn't like American ones, and he's not in a smoking culture when he hangs with me and my friends (rather than with his family, all who smoke.)

For those of you trying to quite and are finding it hard, I found that a brand called Native American are about as close to canadian cigarettes as you can getTaste and smell wise. Sharon prefered that I smoked them if I was to smoke to any of the other American cigarettes, they are a primium brand at just over $4.00 for a pack of 20, they supposedly have no additives and are all natural. What I found surprising is that smoking them I reduced my smoking by over half smoking 10 per day rather than the usual pack of 25 canadian I brought with me.
The best thing is to not smoke at all you can never tell when smoking will affect you, I have been lucky and am only in the past year felt the effects of the narrowing of the veins and to be honest it is not something that is enjoyable but rather restictive in certain functions.
