bcartr? how does your wife like it thee in US? was adjustment easy for her?

She constantly tells me how Ukraine is better. LOL
I believe this is the case because she does not understand how it works here.
But then again, maybe she does have some points.
So she is still adjusting even after 5 months of being here.
We did go out to a Russian Restaurant/Party for New Years Eve so she loved that.
So in all, it has not been easy.

I will just say that finding FSU friends for her has worked out for me. So if you have not yet, you better get busy!
She loves Skype as she gets to talk to family and friends back home.

Why pay, you did not get to use the old system, it worked quite well, and very fast, never had a problem nor had to pay to talk on a phone or get this new phone card, everything was done online by email. Anyway if you are happy with it then great. whistling.gif

No problem, when in doubt, go to Kyiv USA embassy website, get their email address and email them any questions you may have, they are very good and reliable, and can tell you just exactly what to do or what procedure they are currently doing now to be for certain. That is too bad if they switched to a phone system procedure this spring or summer, just more hassle and expense for Ukrainians, so I would definitely email embassy to find out your best options. Best of luck to you. [/b] good.gif

Hmm,
I do not understand? You believe that it is expensive to use the phone in Ukraine?
Yes the US Embassy in Kiev did go to a phone system charging some money to get information, however I found it very valuable and I never had to wait.
Also, by calling you can not only verify if your paperwork has arrived, but you can set up an appointment with them as well. That is better then email as there is no option to do that, and it is better then waiting for them to send you the package. This could save you weeks in the process, maybe even a month or two, if you wait for them.

QUOTE(zqt3344)
They should but you watch E, they will do something to rip the Ukrainian people off as usual.

I do not understand how getting Wifi would rip of the Ukrainian people if this guy is traveling and most likely not Ukrainian?
I found the internet cafe's in Ukraine not expensive and plenty of places as well. Although I did not use WiFi, I do not see why you cannot ask them to plug you in directly using a normal CAT 5 connection. I mean, your not at starbucks right? And you have to be within a certain amount of feet for Wifi right? So why not just pick a chair and ask them if you can plug in?
If they cannot, they have computers you can use, of course certain things on your laptop you will not be able to do, so bring a USB device with you to make transfer of files easier.

nope... you simply go to the guard at the gate and provide your name... (do not stand in the queue... go to the front of the line) Individuals with appointments get immediate admittance.

Hi folks---I have a question for the married couples.
My wife is planning her first visit back to Odessa in March, but she has some MAJOR concerns. The important points are:

1. She kept her name after we were married.
2. Her birth certificate is from USSR---her name is listed--First; Patronymic; Last
3. Her passport is Ukraine---her name is listed--First; Last
4. Greencard has her name same as birth certificate (Homeland Security goes by this document first)

She is very worried that since her greencard and passport do not match EXACTLY, she will not be able to return to the US. When we went for the greencard interview, the case officer said the only way he knew it could be resolved was by her going down to the county courthouse and filing a name change.

Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on this?

BTW---she will use JFK as POE if that makes any difference.

I would be more worried about getting on the airplane in Odessa rather than gaining entry at the POE... If she brings all her documents with her she will have no problems getting back in..Her greencard is the most important document at the POE!!!! Can I say VIP service at Odessa for less hassles upon departure!
aikorob
Really---never had ANY hassles going in or returning from Odessa or Kiev

I've told her repeatedly that the greencard will be all she needs---plus it has her photo--- even the most dense DHS official should be able to match a face.

My wife's cousin has.... Like I said... upon entry into the USA her passport is secondary... as the greencard is the required document to present to the CBP officer

You should be able to download it off the US embassy of Ukraine website. Somewhere on the website of US embassy of Ukraine there are links that allow you to click on and download the forms(including packet 4, which may be in a WINZIP file format) and checklists or directions for everything you need in case the Ukraine mail does not deliver.

Would take a copy of the marriage certificate just in case to prove or verify different names on passport versus green card for re entry if she is worried. Also when she comes back to the USA, only thing they are going to be most concerned with is the GreenCard or travel permit. Should not be a problem for her entering Ukraine, they will stamp her passport and let her in, she is Ukraine citizen still. Anyway that is what we noticed or experienced over holidays week ago when we went to Ukraine and came back.

Hi to all!!! Received my NOA2 yesterday. Needless to say, we are both very happy and excited. Can anyone tell me how long it will take for the petition to arrive at the embassy in Kyiv? It was processed at the VSC. Any other information, tips, advice, etc. you can share would be great.

Three variables

1) Transit time from VSC to NVC
2) NVC processing
3) Transit time from NVC to Kyiv...

All appear to be slowing down in recent months
Mariya
Hi, I also got my interview scheduled for Feb 27th!!!!

And I got a letter from NVC in the mail telling when my interview will be and what i need to bring with. One of the reminders says:

"If a sponsor filed I-864 (Affidavit of Support) and provided the NVC with the proof of IRS Federal Income Tax Extension in lieu of a Federal Income Tax Return, the applicant must bring the sponsor's most recent Federal Income Tax Return to the visa interview".

What is that? Am I really gonna need that? (My husband filed I-864EZ to NVC and everything was fine with it).

Hello John and Luda,

I see from your timeline, that you received your NOA1 one week after the Vermont Service Center received your application. Vermont received my application on December 27, and I have yet to hear from them. Any idea why?

Not at all. The one thing that comes to mind is that the mail could be running slow because of the holidays, but who knows. If you have confirmation they received it at VSC then I say just be patient, you'll eventually get it. Good luck the rest of the way.

Usually within about 10 -15 business days. It starts moving fast now. Start getting your finance to get everything organized off the checklist from embassy website(you may have already done this) so she can be able to contact embassy and set up her interview asap. Good luck and enjoy, it is all down hill now, people at embassy are great to work with and very fast/efficient. good.gif

Looks like they are asking you to bring along a copy of your finance's most recent federal tax return that he filed in USA. Could or should be 2006, since we file for 2007 federal tax returns by April 15, 2008. Also if he submitted an I-864 based on what they say here to you, usually a person does not have to file the I864 until they adjust status in USA after marriage, BUT if he filed the I864EZ for you already in USA then I am sure the US embassy is going to be requiring and expecting a copy of his 2006 Federal INcome Tax Return, which you will need to take with you to the interview. Usually a person can use the I 134 form for the K1 embassy interview in Kyiv, but doubt that you will have to do this now since it looks like your finance already filed a I864EZ in it's place. Good luck. good.gif

We used letters, emails, pictures, engagement ring invoice, motel/hotel receipts, airline tickets/boarding passes, passport pages showing travel stamps in and out of USA and Ukraine, I wrote a letter of intent to marry still(updated or most current date before mailing to fiance) and had it notarized, anything we could think of that proved I was there in Ukraine several times and same for coming to USA. If you are already married you probably have Ukraine marriage certificate, probably have to show it translated and notarized to them but that would work. Friends letters or statements, bank records, money transfers records, whatever you can think of to establish a relationship.

What is NCLEX-RN? is that for RN nursing? my spouse has already taken her USMLE step 1 back in Nov, 2007, so I can imagine how stressed and busy you are studying all the time and then trying to run around and gather up everything for you interview. I think you will do fine and be great at it, they were nice and polite at the US embassy in Kiev. If you can speak English well, I would recommend you take the interview in English, those interviewers seem to be more relaxed and at ease than the interviewers that speak Russian/Kiev based on what I was told from my spouse, we did ours in English, it was very simple and easy and only like 10-15 minutes or less and only like 2 questions.

Well good luck.

I am an American missionary who has been living in Ukraine for 4 years. My husband's family is originally from Ukraine, but he was born in Russia. He was considered Ukrainian until the fall of the Soviet Union, when he became officially Russian. He has now lived in Ukraine for the past 8 years.

So, although we are going through the DCF process in Ukraine, he is officially Russian.

Thanks, Natashenka for the links. I'll check those out.

That is interesting, I have met many missionaries while traveling in and out of Ukraine, I had no idea there were so many of you there! Every time I fly in I meet a minister and his people or a lady and her people over in Ukraine trying to spread religion, they have a lot of amazing stories to tell, I always admire them and enjoy talking to them. Even met some from England once, really amazing stuff, good luck in your future work. wink.gif

Respectfully, IMHO we need to bring Orthodoxy to America, rather than proselytize Ukraine.

Then why not leave the Ukrainians with theirs? blink.gif

I do not know you tell me? Did not really notice many Ukrainians going to church or really being involved in any religion so to speak, was told that it was discouraged and forbidden for many years under Communism so just my observation from watching what goes on there. Besides religion is religion, meaning it causes more problems for the world than it fixes and instead of uniting people it seems to divide them more and more. unsure.gif

Obviously, as either an atheist or agnostic, you would not be going INTO the churches to see the Christians in there. I have been in the churches and seen a faith that has survived 70+ years of Godless communism. I have seen a church in Evpatoria that was turned into a sports club by the communists. They had painted over the beautifully painted icons, but you could still see the icons thru the paint. This church, as well as many others throughout Ukraine, are being restored to their former glory, even though the economy of Ukraine is not very good. For myself, I would paraphrase you and say "government is government, meaning it causes more problems for the world than it fixes and instead of uniting people it seems to divide them more and more". smile.gif
