The $205 check for our I-751 was cashed on 11/20/06 but nothing received to date so called the 800-375-5283 number:
NOA1 Receipt (with I-555 stamp good for one year) had been sent, but never arrived so they will send another. In the course of the conversation was told-

Full name of recipient must be on mailbox or carrier "is under no obligation to deliver" (we have surname only on box).

Was given the receipt number verbally, but "don't bother trying to get automated info from web site or phone system, none is ever posted for I-751s".

Replacement receipt should arrive in 30 "well, maybe 45" days; Green Card expires in 30 but "don't bother going to District Office, they can't do anything.".

Who says so? Why do you think this is true? Our receipt number shows they have received our application to remove condtions and will let us know their decision....

The quotes are verbatim what I was told on the phone- but, no, I don't believe a word that anyone in the US Government says.

The receipt number I was given to this day comes back as invalid.

It is considered dangerous by the post office to put your full name on the mailbox (especially in places like here, where there's a high incidence of mail theft and identity theft), they advise putting the last name only. In fact, our mail carrier wrote our names on our mailbox herself and she specifically asked us only for our last names. So what you were told the Post Office does is, in fact, completely contrary to what they do. (You are required to have your number on the outside of the box, on the same side as the flag in numbers at least an inch high, though.)

Our first receipt number was not trackable online, then we got a second NOA-1 with a different receipt number that was trackable online. That number also was on the letter we got with the biometrics appointment. However the biometrics appointment was almost 2 months ago and the status still says only that they received our application (not that they received the results of biometrics), so maybe it's not trackable in the sense that they don't update it, even though you can log in and it will find your case.

But of course, since you won't believe a word I say, why do I bother?

we live in an apartment and our mailbox is on the outside of the building.... along with the other mail boxes in this apartment building...

I am not really keen on putting my name on the mail box... we don't live in the greatest neighborhood ...

not sure what I should do.....

IN the mailbox, Marilyn, as many have posted. I made a little card with the names of all the mail that can be delivered to my address and taped it inside the box.
Ask your mail carrier for a card from their office as well. There is an official thingie you can fill in to say whose mail may be delivered to your box.

Well our house number AND name are on our mailbox at the end of the driveway and USCIS still hasn't sent me my NOA despite having received my I-751 on Dec. 7th and cashed the check on Dec. 14th.

I believe the name is needed on the box in rural areas only (e.g. where the houses are very far apart from each other and outside city limits). In urban/suburban areas, you only need the number.

Kinda like where I live up in these har Blue Ridge Mountinz, Marilyn...lol.

I sent mine in on Nov. 17, they cashed the check Nov. 24 and I never received a NOA. I called the info line and they told me to schedule an info pass appt. with my district office so I did. It was for a week before my card expired. I went there, got my passport stamped with an extention for 1 year on my residency and 6 months on my work authorization. That was on Wed, Jan 17 and then I recieved a NOA from Nebraska the following Saturday. Apparently when I call the info line, they requested a new one be sent. What a waste of time it was driving 3 hours for a 5 minute appointment just to receive a NOA in the mail 3 days later.
But, better safe than sorry.
I've yet to receive a bio appointment. The immigration officer at the district office told me to email them in a couple of months if I still haven't gotten one and they would schedule one for me.

That's a new one on me.... how is it marked in your passport? I've only ever seen them give the I-551 stamp, which covers residency and work permission equally.

The immigration officer hand wrote the date for the work authorization. It doesn't really matter because I've got my NOA that extends both the residency and work authorzation for a full year. I will be taking both with me when I go up to Canada on Friday.
