Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong section. I was trying to find the best place to put this...maybe the consulate section. I dunno.
So here is my question: When travelling to your fiance/e's country (UK) and passing through immigration and customs to visit, is it okay to state that I am coming to the UK to visit my Fiance/e before he immigrates to the US (show them proof of filing for fiance visa). Or even, I am coming to attend my fiance's visa interview at the US consulate so that he can immigrate to the US?
Anyone have any experiences with this? So many people have brought up this in regards to before applying for a visa but what if I have proof to show them (USCIS letters) that we have wedding plans in the US and will not sneak off and get married there?
Thanks!

I can only remember one person posting who had problems with UK Immigration, and they shall we say were asking for it.
My now wife always said she was visiting me.

I've been asked very few questions at UK immigration - usually the standard - if I'm there for business or a holiday (holiday), how long I'm there for. Last time I got one extra question about my job and what exactly it was (I guess he had never heard of a software QA Analyst before). Then stamp stamp, I'm done.
Just because I'm paranoid, I brought copies of my mortgage paperwork (usually the most current account statement).
Just answer the questions as they are asked, bring proof of ties to home, be honest on the forms you fill out (I always have my fiance's address on there but am never asked about it) and you'll be fine.

I flew into Newcastle to see Paul during our wait for the K1. She was very nice, i said i was there to visit my fiance while we went through the US system, showed her our filing papers and she asked to see my return ticket then waved me on. i think they only get suspicous when people dance around the questions like 'I'm here to visit." "Oh, visit who?" oh well my fiance...like you were trying to hide something. They were very very nice.
Good luck! Joey

The first time I was over there, I was detained for 9 hours cos they thought I was trying to get married and emigrate there.

I have entered the UK around 6 times in 18 months ... to visit my boyfriend, fiance and now husband ... including I had a visa to get to married in the UK this summer and have lived there for 7 months. I have never gotten more than a couple of basic questions. And I stood out more because the address I am going to is in a small village on the Northwest coast (in Cumbria) and I don't think they see a lot of American tourists with that destination. One suggestion we got from our lawyer is never volunteer anything beyond answering the question asked ... for example, on one trip the offical looked at the address I was going to and asked "Are you visiting family or friends?" and I answered "yes." He had not asked who I was visiting.

I just came back from the UK this week. I went in Dec 9th. My exact conversation with the nice lady at customs going into the UK was:
"Hello, passport please... How long are you staying?"
Me: "a month"
"For what reason? Vacation? family? friends?"
Me: "Vacation, friends and future family"
"Have a nice day"
In all honesty if you don't want to get hastled i'd just say you're going over for vacation. If you're only staying a short time they won't think anything of it. I've never had them ask more than 2-3 questions.
