I thought this was an interesting quiz and shows the diversity of Islamic thought.

Ahhh, I remember this quiz. I'm on the cusp between traditional and progressive, which is humerous, since the progressive big tent ain't big enough to fit me under and I self identify with the neo-traditionalist radical middle way peeps. I am hoping now that some of the more rational people in the progressive movement have split from Tarek Fatah that there will be room for me in there somewhere. I know the quiz was made before the whole progressive movement started here in NA, but it would be interesting to see how the self idenitfied proggies score on this quiz.

I wasn't sure how accurate the quiz was and who designed it. I came out at spiritual which suprised me because of the answers I gave I was sure they were going to tell me I wasn't muslim at alll wink.gif

I know people are hestitant to post their own resutls and there are definately posters here who do not add anything constructive but I think its important to recognize how diverse the Muslim world is and how yet we are all in this together. This includes the non-muslims on the board who married Muslims or have Muslim inlaws.

from what i gathered about the test, it's haram in the eyes of the traditional muslim in that praise is only to be given to god, not to people.

did i get that right?

Two minute story of my conversion to Islam......I had been reading about Islam after 9/11. Hadn't really heard of it until then. The more I read the more I felt like I was muslim. I studied and prayed on it for 6 months. I was so close to acceptance. Somehow found Beliefnet and took a test on spiritual beliefs....pushed the button for the result and it said '100% Islam'. Said shahada that night alhamdulillah. Met Mohammed 2 months later and the rest is happily ever after. smile.gif Thanks Beliefnet!

Very interesting little quiz. I particularly enjoyed the question about Salman Rushdie. laughing.gif The quiz says I am a Spirtual Seeker. I think it about right, but was very hard to asnwer the questions since I sided with many progessive ideas too. I truly identify with this quote from the progessive muslim description.

interpret Islam historically and might believe that ijtihad should be reopened.

QUOTE
[b]You are a spiritual seeker.
Ibn Battuta traveled the Muslim world looking for answers. Like this famous traveler, you are also looking for answers and have also found yourself wandering through the world of Islam. The spiritual realm of Islam particularly appeals to you. You probably toy with the idea of Sufism and may enjoy reading mystic poets such as Rumi or Hafez. For you, Islam is a state of being that leads to your ultimate connection to God through your submission to Him. Although Islam often guides you on many practical questions, you are more likely than not looking to connect to God and others on a more spiritual level. Many of the social regulations or rules of Islam may seem daunting and unnecessary. You continue to have questions, as well as faith.

That is correct.

I took that test years ago. Can't remember how I came out, tho, not that it matters to me now.

Well, I scored a 41. Not sure if it matters or what I think about it. tongue.gif
