I'm having a hard time finding a website for information thought I would toss the question here see if someone could at least point me in the right direction. My husband and I were married in PA last January and at that time I took his last name. So my social, green card and driver's licence read his name but my Canadian information is still all in my maiden name. After discussing with my husband, we have decided that it would be better to detach ourselves from his last name due to family history. Is it too late for both of us to just change our names to either my maiden name or a new last name by simply starting to use the name or do we have to go threw a legal name change. Any help appreciated, website, advice etc.

Regards,
Tanya

This sounds like a legal issue, one for an attorney. Maybe someone else has better advice. Have you googled this? Maybe that might get you some sort of starting place for information. Best of luck to you. smile.gif

BTW, I love your avatar...makes me miss those great SNL days. smile.gif

Could see you changing back thru legal process but HE wants to also change his last name completly?
TracyTN
If HE wants to change his name, I believe that has to be done through a court proceeding in order to be done legally. I think you might have to do the same, as you don't have any documentation stating what you 'need' the change for (like a divorce or death of spouse).

I'd google it along with the name of your state and see what you come up with.

Google was my first try wink.gif

We both want to change our name at this point to my maiden. On the web i have found that in PA a man can take his wife's maiden when they are married. My question is really does it have to be at time of marriage or can we both just start using my maiden name now. The only way for me to find out it seems is to actually ask a lawyer which is what I was trying to avoid if it was just a matter of starting to use the name.
TracyTN
Screw a lawyer - call the local county court clerk and ask.

Ohhh good call.

You can just start using a name when you get married. In PA anyways when we got married we could have BOTH just started using his last name, my maiden name or any name we made up. But I called the court and at this point since I took his name already we do have to do a legal name change.

Thanks for your help all. I'm sure if we do change it's gonna be fun to change on me green card. wacko.gif
