So I left calling the town clerk about the certified copy of my birth certificate (I'm the USC) for my fiance's interview for a Saturday since I work 45 hours during the week... and they're only open Monday - Friday 9am - 4:30pm, I work 8 - 5 in a town about 30 minutes away from this town hall. I have an hour off for lunch and am not allowed to take time off even for things like this during my first 90 days of employment. Wonderful! I had a similar problem with DMV, don't these idiots realize that the people they serve WORK?!
Anyway.
The debate is... do I need to get in touch with the town hall of the town where I was BORN, or the town hall of the town where I'm now a RESIDENT? I was born in a hospital one town over but have lived in a different town my whole life. I have a request form online that I could print and mail out with a copy of my driver's license and their $10 fee, they just need proof that I need it (great) so I'll have to figure out how to prove it. I don't want to mail this form out to the town I'm a RESIDENT in today just to find out I need to request it from the town I was BORN in. Is this something that'll differ from town to town and I have to wait til I can call on my lunch break Monday, or is there a general rule that you guys can help me with?
I'm also a little worried that, if I mail this form, it'd take 4 weeks for me to get like my driver's license did. I'm not waiting 4 weeks to mail my affidavit of support and stuff over to France, but I don't want to get hit with shipping costs twice. I would imagine that this is something my parents can't do for me cuz I'm over 18? I wonder if they'd at least let my parents pick it up if I mail the application. Hmm.

What happened to the certified birth certificate you used for the K1 filing? Did you send the original in the package?
And even if you did, it's not your original certified birth certificate they will be concerned with at the interview. It's his.

Why do you need a certified copy of your birth certificate for his interview?

I'm not sending my original 22 year old birth certificate over to France. And can't they request the originals of anything I sent in photocopies in the I-129F? I sent copies of my birth certificate proving my US citizenship, so doesn't that mean I have to send a certified copy of my birth certificate to France?

It's a fairly standard thing. The reason you need it is for your own records...these guys aren't as hard to please as USCIS. And yep, 4 weeks is pretty standard for delivery, though a good many places have expediated processing for an extra fee.
Now then, I'm not that familiar with New York(if I'm wrong about your location sorry) but here in Virginia birth records are only available through the state records office, not the town or county office. Same goes for Oklahoma actually(I was born there).
Editted to say 'proof you need it' is 'for my records'

Aaah, like saying I lost it and need a new one for my records.

Good idea.
I'll just wait and call them Monday. I'll see if I can get some sort of priority handling/shipping/something. Thanks anyway guys.

Edit: Oh, and congrats on the NOA2, Thingee!

I haven't heard of the consulate asking for an original bc for the petitioner although it could happen and wouldn't hurt as a backup - I did send one with my fiance to his interview and they didn't even look at it.
Can't you just order it directly from the bureau of records where you were born? Doesn't seem like it should be a big deal - I ordered several copies of mine years ago by phone.

Like I said, I guess I'll just have to wait til Monday and call rather than filling out that form and mailing it today. Thank you anyway.

You will need certified copies for application, I recommend using the following website, they have 1-2 day service to get your documents from birth, marriage, divorce and so on for many states in the US :
