Had a conversation with my SO the other day, and found out that we both like to sleep on the same side of the best (the left side).. we kinda joked out who would have to give up the left side.. we are still 5 months away before she get's here.. but thought it was an interesting question about if the SO who live here in the States would be willing to give up somthing this trival to make their SO's adjust that much easier..
In the end.. I think I would give up the left side for my wife

Funny poll
Of course I picked, "Willing to give up your favourite side to your SO considering they have just given up their entire life to be with you"

I woulda changed if he HAD to sleep on my side, but thankfully he don't! hahaha

I have no idea what side of the bed i like to sleep on

I think I always used to sleep in the middle of the bed....
and I notice that I like to sleep on the side away from the door, if possible.... I guess in case someone comes in they will have to go through hubby first
hubby also likes to swtich sides all the time, although he hasn't done that in awhile....

I voted that we would flip a coin! But mostly because that is how we would joke about it!
Honestly if it were a serious issue between us I would allow him to choose. Nothing to lose sleep over! *grin*
We just kinda happened to sleep where we do. No one picked!

It doesn't matter which side of the bed I sleep on. However, in keeping with the poll, I would have given up my side of the bed for my husband.
LOL, reminds me of a question on here a while back about bathroom tissue.....over or under.

we both like the left side... there was no question... i happily gave it up
most often tho, we both wind up on the same 2/3rds of the bed, because both of us sleep better in each others arms

I have cubital tunnel syndrome* in my right elbow, so if I sleep on the right side I can't snuggle my husband because I need to have my right arm extended (I used to have to wear a brace to break the habit of bending it, but now I've gotten over it). So that wasn't even up for discussion.
*It's like carpal tunnel except: (1) it's a different nerve so it affects the nerves to a different part of your hand, (2) it gets trapped in the elbow and not in the wrist, and (3) it's caused by sleeping with your elbows bent tight and/or spending a lot of time leaning on your elbows, not by repetitive stress.

I don't care about sides, I care about being far away from the door, always, no matter which side. We got lucky because Charles likes to sleep closest to both bathroom and bedroom door.

When I was alone I used to sleep in the middle of the bed....now I sleep on the edge and he sleeps on the isde against the wall...it doesn't matter to me which side I sleep on....It works good this way now because when it's time for me to get up for work I can just roll out of the bed....and not climb over him.

Basically copied the one we started on in the hotel room (on night of 2006/04/15).

I currently sleep diagonal acrossed my bed, habit I got into when my ex left, so the bed wouldn't feel so empty.

Guess I'm going to have to choose a side eventually...or maybe not...

After reading the posts here, I'm kind of liking the 'sleep in the same spot' idea.

We naturally sleep kind of opposite, back to back or rear to rear... whichever way you see it. But my fiance' tends to lay very still and just sleep on his side, while I toss and turn a lot. Normally I sleep in the middle of the bed, not on any one side, so scootching over isn't a big deal. I just don't like it when he (rarely) turns over towards my side, and I turn that way, and I get a blast of hot breath in my face. I'm sorry, but at 3am in the morning, no one's breath is minty fresh.

Sides of the bed change wherever we are ... different sides for all the different beds we have slept in.

I haven't seen my hunny in 8 months so I'm not concerned about what side we're sleeping on, or even sleeping at all!

I must say I do like to be on the side closest to the door because I am the only one who gets up at night and I hate to crawl over him and disturb him. Sorry..but after kids your bladder shrinks! hehe

don't care. all the times i've been to visit my fiance we've never discussed who sleeps on which side. we just went to a side and that was fine.
but i do have sort of a hip problem and i like to lie facing the right side the majority (but not all) of my sleep, so it would be nice if i were facing him ...so i guess that means i like the left side!
i also prefer to be away from the door like nessa.

I gave up my side of the bed. If I sleep on that side I wake up nearly off the bed but if I take the other side I'm good. For some reason my husband rolls that way when he sleeps. I'm used to sleeping on the other side now. No biggie.

Your comment caught my eye, Wacken.... just a thought... depending on the age of the child, you might want to make the change sooner, so s/he does not associate distance from Mom with the arrival of your husband.... might prevent some resentment that way....

We like different sides of the bed
but it's not a left-right thing, it's that I like the side that's closest to the wall and he likes the one farest from it
But if we'd liked the same side, he'd better given it up for me!

Good point, Jen
My sons would always end up in bed with me (with me usually ending up on the couch) when they stayed at my house. I talked to them in advance about my husband coming and that they would have to start sleeping in their own beds. They were fine with it. Of course my sons are 9 and 10 and really shouldn't be sleeping with their mom anyways.
