Howdy all, I hope everyone had a great holiday smile.gif

I have a question. I'm starting to pack all my stuff for the moving truck (I'm using Upack from Winnipeg to Denver). I've been briefly reading the customs form that has to accompany all my things, I have a pretty decent packing list made, etc.

What I'm wondering about is this "you must have owned these items for at least one year" line I keep seeing.
There's a number of things I've owned for less than a year, from cosmetics, to electronics, to clothing.

Do I have to declare all of these? Am I charged duty on them? I'm a little clueless here blink.gif

Thanks everyone smile.gif

I was in the same situation. We were using professional movers and driving down ourselves with the cats, so I chose to separate out what was less than 12 months old (fortunately nothing big) and make a separate list of these items with their value (and receipts if I still had them), then carried them with us in the car. When I entered the US I had all of my lists ready for the declarable personal items, the cats, the phytosanitary certificates for some houseplants . . . and they weren't interested in any of it. I could have brought down all sorts of illegal or contraband items and they wouldn't have known. (I didn't of course, being a law-abiding Canadian, hehehe). If that is an option for you, consider doing that. I believe that anything owned less than a year is subject to duty, however, whether the duty will actually be collected is another matter. Just prepare your list anyway.

Thanks for the response.
I'm loading the truck and then flying, so there's a fairly limited amount of stuff I can take with me on the plane.
I wont have reciepts for any of the stuff (I don't keep them) so I'll have to estimate the worth.

Unfortunately, while a lot of these things are small, some are pretty expensive. Anyone know what the duty is?
