I have just been reading about how public opinion on the Spanish-American war was manipulated by the media and how that same media dealt with other wars.

How embarrassing. At least I think I guessed right.

I have no idea when it took place but just guessed. I don't know what it was about either. whistling.gif

I honestly don't think the Philippine-American war was mentioned even once in my entire school career. Had to find out it even happened at all on my own.

I have to admit I knew nothing of the Philippine-American war (and very little about the Philippines in general, since as Alex mentioned it was not taught in our schools in the US) before I met my Filipino girlfriend, now spouse. Since that time I've read quite a bit, and am happy to say that my guess on when it started was correct.

Just having read a little bit about it now, it seems that Americans refer to it as the Phillippine Insurrection rather than a war. Anyone know if this is still true?

This is sort of related in terms of what was printed vs. the reality - the Boxer Rebellion in China - I can't remember the date but it had to do with Westerners who had established trading within China that exploited the native Chinese all for the sake of the almighty dollar. I believe the exploitation and ruthlessness towards the Chinese by the Westerners was a contributing factor to the People's Revolution. How ironic that today a company like Walmart which does over $18 Billion in trade with China now uses the Chinese government to exploit the workers.

I hope the next revolution or war that is fought is to get rid of corporations as we know them today. They are a cancer to society.

Yeah, but the fact that your country went into a war against a newly formed republic, so the money they spent buying that country from Span wasn't wasted, is a big thing to leave out of the history books...

It is like the Argentine-Brazilian war that no one in Brazil has ever heard of, but people in Argentina and Uruguay will never forget...

By the way, when I said "your country", I meant, as if you were from the USA.
