I know this topic has to have been covered before but my searching on here has not turned anything up, so I apologize if I am being redundant. Do the airlines give any problem to the holder of the K1 Visa if they have a one-way ticket booked? I don't know if written rules on this exist, or if it is specific airline policies.

Also, do the INS officers at the POE care whether or not the K1 visa holder has a one-way vs. a round-trip ticket?

If they are coming over with their visa it does not matter. You can get one-way or round trip whichever is cheaper good.gif

If they are immigrating over with their visa, then why would they need a return ticket anyway? I doubt the airlines would give you any hastles about it.

good.gif One way ticket was good for us for the airlines and the POE was not even concerned ...............So buy the one way .

The visa is meant for you to immigrate, they should know you don't plan to go back. Just buy whatever is cheaper.

I got milage points and can this way only get a round trip.

But for my son I was hoping to buy a oneway, but realized it's alot more expensive than a roundtrip ticket.
So if they ask at POE I hope that it's not the first time they see this.

Airline ticketing office has nothing to do with those K-1 visa holder. They are not connected with each other. Just buy ticket.
Merry Christmas!

I would go with whatever is less expensive. As long as the visa is valid, the airline won't care. I was worried about this myself when my wife came, but she wasn't even asked for her ticket at the POE.

My wife (fiance back then) came on a K1 visa on a one way ticket - she found a cheaper one in Colombia - one way. No one looks at the tickets since you are on a K1 visa. Good Luck

Just to point out airlines do care about you having return tickets, depending on what visa you are on. As a non-resident alien for a long time, I pretty much always got asked by the person at the ticketing desk when I was leaving the US if I had a correct visa that would allow me to return to the US for example.

I would imagine with a K-1 you are allowed to have 1 one way ticket, as the purpose of the visa is to immigrate to the USA.

I read somewhere once (I don't know how true it is) that the airline that brought you to a country is responsible for returning you if the tickets and the visa aren't acceptable to immigration at the POE (e.g., a 30 day tourist and a one-way, how you getting out?? What if you blow your money?).

Thanks for all the responses. I believe from all the experiences posted that a one-way is OK. I just wonder how astute the airline counter people are with their visa knowledge and how they know not to scrutinize a K1. I guess they have seen quite a bit. I defnitely can see the POE knowing the deal, but I hope the airline counter doesn't give any problems. My Fiance is from Thailand and Thai people relatively aren't allowed to roam very freely, so we'll see what happens. Thanks again!

I don't know if they care.. but I do... Roundtrip from Moldova to Idaho app $1100 ..One-way app $5,000.00 Now how do I explain the round-trip ticket to Veronica hahahhahahahah

Thanks Mags. Sorry about the redundancy. I swear I searched for this before I posted. Maybe I searched in the wrong forum, K1. I see now that this is a more appropriate topic for this forum.
