I seriously feel like I am in some alternate universe. Is taking screenshots something people now routinely do on forums such as this? Maybe I am not just up-to-date on normal forum behavior, so I am interested in what others have to say.

taking screenshots sounds like something you might do if you are investigating a crime, or if you are a sick jerk,

Do you take screenshots (pictures) of people's profiles and messages and save them?

I know of a woman from another forum I was involved in who made archives of screen shots and charts of ppl's personal info that they posted so that she could dig it up later to use against them. That kind of person has SERIOUS issues. I can't fathom why someone would need this sort of info or why they would put in such effort.

The first time I ever saw a screenshot of someone's profile was when JP did it to prove that VP was someone else. Freaked me out but I guess in the online-message board world it's pretty more common than one would think.

I really think though that if things get to that point something is just not right. At some point you have to step away from the keyboard and realize that there is more to life.

I can't think of any reason one would want to do that.... ..... .....
maybe they are short on time...see a comment and wanna reply but don't have the time...so they could save a screenshot for replying to it later??? a little far fetched .... just trying to figure it out.....
saving profiles?? ummm.... is there any reason... ... ... ... ... ummmm ... ... maybe they have no memory and they're afraid they'll forget their friends??...again grasping at straws.... but there has to be a LOGICAL reason out there somewhere........

This very issue is why I became very hesitant to share some of my more personal information on this forum (or any other). I know people do the screen shot thing. I find it disturbing. I think when you put so much time and energy into activities such as this, its a good indication that something in your personal life is out of balance. I know when I spend too much time on the internet I end up feeling messed up and my perspective is all out of sync. I guess in this "age of information" nothing is sacred if its published on the internet. It's a shame.

I feel the same way. Another reason why I love the weekends. It forces me off the net.

i remember when Rachid first screen prited us when we were talking online... it was cute... but at that time I did not know you could do that.... he kept ones from us talking online... but I don't know why someone would keep ones of other people... suprised "no" I am glad I found this out now rather than later about some people from vj.....

if there is a link to a website I will go to it then if I like it save it to my favorites.... but that is about it...

wait..I have saved the screen before...I used to save cute pictures of my husband when we used to video chat... But I always sent them to him...I even printed a couple of them out so I could have a picture of him in my wallet (before he got here)..... that was for total personal use between my husband and I though...I think thats different...

I take screen shots when I'm capturing information to put in a technical manual. I'm sure as heck not going to do that on a message board.

The more I think about it the weirder it seems. But then again, I'm constantly amazed at people.

I'd like to add to my post earlier...that while I don't take screenshots of things on VJ, I do not feel at risk or scared because Charles does (other people may too but I don't remember who).

This is a public place and if someone wants to come screw up some ppl's lives it's probably very easy and does not even have to include taking screen shots. But still I am not paranoid about that.

You never know Jim...there have been some *really* strange ones on here in the 15 months I've been on this board.....

I haven't any reason to do that...even if I knew how. Heck, I'm STILL having problems uploading our Christmas picture from Photobucket! I think I am seriously "technology challenged" in that area.

A person joins this forum and innocently shares their live stories and troubles, hoping to get some insight... only to find out that a few (and I hope it's only a few members) decide to use this information against you... not that I understand how, but again weirder things have happen in this world!


But again - as someone has mentioned - this is a public forum therefore anything you share is public... which is true - however you hope it is used for the betterment of the members not against...

But if you're going to let some hearsay 'taint your perception of this forum in general' then I suggest you're being too judgemental and don't deserve all that this website or the members have to offer. If it takes an ancedotal story for your image of VJ to be 'tainted'....well that's not saying much, is it?

How dare someone new come here and say such disparaging things about this place? It's one of the nicest and most helpful places on the net...and yes, ppl here may be a lil dysfunctional like a crazy family, but two things this place is is helpful and welcoming and it's out of line for someone new to criticize, imo.

It's not hard to take a screen shot. Probably most people if they were inclined to do so could find out how.

I wanna know why the hell people are taking screenshots. It's much easier to save the entire page as an HMTL file. Then you get the entire page, not just what's on your screen. If I find a website page that's very informative, I save it. I've seen far too many sites just disappear. I have to clean out my bookmarks every few months just to keep up with the number of missing sites.

Screenshots are for novices. Those who are serious save the entire page. (Can you tell I'm an internet snob? lol) Don't know if that makes ME a weirdo too or not. And no....I don't regularly save pages from here. Only once, and that was in regard to some major drama that I knew would disappear before I had a chance to read all of it. So I quickly paged through it, saving each page as I went.

so as for the question: why take screenshots? because it is an off site forum, and no one would believe what some of these women are saying about others on the board (i was shocked at the comment about yodrak). the only reason they are whining about it is it exposes them for what they really are. note that these screenshots were taken of an open forum........

now since some of you decided to make an issue of it all, there are the links for anyone interested in about what the topic is really about. and i don't find being sprayed with nerve agent very funny (yes, that is what insecticide is).

more food for thought for the complainers from mena - i did provide ewok with the links to that site (and i'm sure he's seen these exact pics in their original format) so he could see what was going on as i found some of the statements there quite worrisome. whether i like or dislike someone on vj, i certainly don't state a desire to spray someone with nerve agent..... and i'll let the more medically inclined answer as to what such would do to a person but i'm sure the eyes would be seriously affected.

So in essence Charles, you're upset about what a bunch of strangers in the cyberworld say about you?

ETA: And do you honestly and truly think, Charles, that any of these women you are concerned about really care enough about you to find you, and then do damage to you? Those screen shots prove nothing more than the fact they needed to vent in a safe place.

If it's that disturbing to you, contact their ISP, get a restraining order, hire a body guard. Or maybe stop being a dramatist.
