Just curious especially for longer flights, what everyone's preference is and why. I can't choose my seat until 24 hours before my flight this Monday, and even then I may not have much of a choice but I'm hard pressed to decide. I definitely don't want the middle but do I go for a window so I can rest my head or an aisle so I can come and go without buggin' anyone?

Window! I usually sleep for a good part of the flight. It's nice to lean up against the window and not have to get up for all those people with small bladders.

aisle. After going thru a DVT with D, it's important to be close to the aisle so that I can stretch my legs without hassling people

I voted aisle.
On really long flights I have to get up and walk. I hate having to ask people to get up and move so I can get out from a window seat. I use to always take the window seat so I could be left alone and sleep, but getting up and walking has taken priority over sleeping

I definately think the window is better...have the little little extra room to put your pillow against the window and sleep/rest. And you donnot have to get up for anyone if they have to go the restroom.

You know Doodle, it night also depend on when you fllight is and which direction you are flying.
For example- Boston to Frankfurt in a late afternoon flight, you might want to try and sleep so the window is good. BUT Frankfurt to Boston in a morning flight, you might not feel sleepy and the aisle could be good.
Even if you take a window seat, get up and walk a little. I usually stand around the doors of the plane out of the aisles for a good half hour to hour at least once if noto twice during the flight. And when you are at your seat, stretch your legs and do leg exercises.

I'd pick aisle, just because I hate having to climb over people if I want to get up. Though window seats can sometimes give an amazing view.
On the way to India me and my dad were in the 2 far right seats of the plane, and only 2 seats were on each side with 5 across the middle...and that was an awesome time to be near a window because we flew over the Alps and saw them so clearly. I even took pictures out of the plane window of them.
I'd still pick aisle for the convenience of getting up easily though. On two 9 hour flights each way (well that's how long to India) you don't want to be stuck at the window seat unless you can really sleep. I can't sleep on planes so it's not useful for me.

I dont know...lol I had no real idea of our flight plan. Sometimes they don't fly the way you think they will from one place to another. But these pics were taken on our flight from France to India.
We were just sitting there and all of the sudden noticed what was outside the window, and were speechless!

We even had some co-passengers ask to look over our shoulders for a minute so they could see it too.

check the back of teh flight magaine in the pocket in front of your seat. Usually there is a map with a somewhat accurate idea of their flight routes. Also many of the planes now have a map running throughout the flight that tells you where you are.

There has to be some sort of bladder-capacity cut-off for taking the window seat. I can't stand it when I get the aisle and I have to get crawled over 6 thousand times by Mr. Peepants who took the window seat.
On a long flight, though, I'll always take the aisle because I can't sleep on planes. That way I can get up without waking anyone up. On a short flight, the window. The other advantage of the aisle is that if someone rather large is sitting next to you and encroaching on your space, you can kind of lean out the aisle.
But I always, ALWAYS ask for the emergency exit rows. Soooo sweet.

Cool, thanks. I tried looking online but it just shows boston and then a little insert with london and then it shows cairo with a little insert with london so not the whole route. Be cool if I could see like the eiffel tower or something, though I doubt we'd be flying that low to see it.

On longer flight, it's the emergency exit row. The leg room is awesome. We always ask for that seat for those 15 hrs non-stop flights.

I absolutely love window seats, I like to see all the cloud action

and the water and land below. I like to sit in front of or behind the EXIT ROW. I don't want the responsibility of sittin in it, but I want to be close. I also don't want to be at the back of the near the restrooms.
Only thing that sucks about the window seat is that you have to make the whole row move in order to go to the bathroom.

Yeah we had a real time map with a little plane symbol on it showing where we were on the little tv's in front of our seats. I thought that was so cool. But I hadn't been on a plane since I was 4 years old before that, so the whole experience of just being on a big plane captivated me.
QUOTE(doodlebug @ Dec 21 2006, 12:28 AM)

I think if anyone on the plane gets sucked into outerspace, it won't only be the person at the emergency exit.

So I wouldn't worry about it.
If you are a afraid to fly, then let me tell you how scared I was to get on a plane to go to India. I am afraid of heights and a plane freaked me out. The first take off freaked me out, I had no recollection that they suddenly press the pedal to the medal and go from really slow to super fast in a matter of a second. lol. But after having to do that 3 times on the way to India, I was used to it and conquered my fear of flying. IMO if I could, anyone can. I don't go on rollercoasters, ever! Yet I am now ok with going on a plane. hehe.

From what I've read, it is physically impossible for the door to open while in flight, due to the tremendous amount of pressure on the door. If it were to "open," it would mean the body of the plane was torn away, and you'd have a lot of company as you flew away

I voted window seats but at time I prefer aisle due to the convenience of moving around, worse thing you want to to use the restroom and it's Food serving time, you are stuck until they are done, or it's very unconfortable of having the people leaving their seat with their tray so you can get out.

Window aka "wall"--as I can lean on this to doze. Aisle and middle seats are OK ONLY if I'm the only occupant in an otherwise-empty centre-section row of an A-300/310/330/340, B-747, L-1011 (no longer in production but some may be in service), DC-10/MD-88 as at least I can stretch my 6'1" across that set.
In business-class or first-class, less issue as leanback is better than in pretzel-class.
