wow those are awesome!!!! How can I find out what my flight path is to see what the heck i'm flyin' over?

check the back of teh flight magaine in the pocket in front of your seat. Usually there is a map with a somewhat accurate idea of their flight routes. Also many of the planes now have a map running throughout the flight that tells you where you are.

Yeah we had a real time map with a little plane symbol on it showing where we were on the little tv's in front of our seats. I thought that was so cool. But I hadn't been on a plane since I was 4 years old before that, so the whole experience of just being on a big plane captivated me. blush.gif

ok so has anyone ever heard of someone getting sucked into outerspace while sitting at the emergency exit or is this just an unfounded ungrounded fear in my head?

I think if anyone on the plane gets sucked into outerspace, it won't only be the person at the emergency exit. no0pb.gif laughing.gif So I wouldn't worry about it.

If you are a afraid to fly, then let me tell you how scared I was to get on a plane to go to India. I am afraid of heights and a plane freaked me out. The first take off freaked me out, I had no recollection that they suddenly press the pedal to the medal and go from really slow to super fast in a matter of a second. lol. But after having to do that 3 times on the way to India, I was used to it and conquered my fear of flying. IMO if I could, anyone can. I don't go on rollercoasters, ever! Yet I am now ok with going on a plane. hehe.

ok, Now we need to work on conquered your fear of roller coasters tongue.gif just go on them a few times and you will love them.. work on first the kiddies ones then work your way up to a crazy one tongue.gif

Agreed as long as the seat back reclines. Some exit rows seatbacks as well as some seats in rows right in front of the exit row do not recline and that is miserable on a long flight. Been there, done that...

That is because it is a Federal Air Reg that the last row of seat before the emericany exit is, not to recline cause it will obstruct the way in case of needing to use the exit door their.

But seats BEHIND the exit have great legroom.

Not sure I'd be too keen to sit there, though. The 777s I've been on were configured so that the loo was right there, too. That means people standing in line for the loo are often standing in your space!

window seat and really close to an exit.. you'll never know..lol

Aisle all the way. you get that extra bit of space and you don't fight for at least one arm rest. Or any seat in business class or first class on flights over 8 hrs.

I used to love window seats, but now I prefer aisle because I don't have to disturb others when I need to go to the washroom tongue.gif Nonetheless, if my seatmates are my family/friends, I'd take the window seat!

Generally I prefer the aisle, so I can use the lav or stretch my legs - also can get a running start once the plane is landed. smile.gif
I do like the window if I'm flying to/from Kathmandu - it's a short flight and if the weather is clear you get the most amazing view of the Himalayas - just be sure you are sitting on the right side of the plane if you are coming from the east and the left if you are coming from the west. On my last flight out of Kat it was early morning, the sky was clear and I got to see the sun rise over the snow mountains - one of those things I will never forget for my whole life, just one more blessing from Lord Shiva on that trip(besides meeting my Maya of course... smile.gif) It's also fun to be sitting by the window if you are flying into Honolulu because you can see Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, etc. but it's usually a long flight, minimum 5 hours so I generally pass in favor of comfort and leave the window to the newbies who have never been there before.

I agree with Dolma-generally the aisle seat. But on my first trip to Hawaii I had a window seat, and oh- what a view. I have stunning pictures from that first trip from the plane; but if I go to Honolulu again I would get an aisle seat.

I grew up in Hawaii and it will always be home to me - amazing how an island girl like me ends up with a guy from a landlocked country... my guy has never seen the ocean, one more thing for me to share with him... smile.gif

There's nothing like flying over thousands of miles of ocean, feeling like it will never end, and then you see the first peeks of islands on the horizon - home! I miss it... sad.gif I'm sure my guy will feel the same after he's been here a while and then he flies over the Himalayas again... smile.gif

Didn't read through the whole post but seatguru.com is the best site to tell you where the best seats are. It has a lot of airlines, and if it doesn't have your airline, it will at least have the plane so you can work it out from there. It's my bible.

I must sit in an aisle seat and close to the bathroom. Otherwise, I feel completely trapped and helpless... helpsmilie.gif

Oh ditto.....esp as I have to drink loads of wine just so I don't care so much if we suddenely plummet to the ground...yeh, easy access to the loo is a must blush.gif

I picked aisle just because if I want to get up I don't have to squeeze by people. And I don't feel so closed in. Although it is nice to have a window to lay your pillow up against.

hi
i have had all 3... i like the window seat for all the reasons mentioned..sleep great views ..i once had an isle seat i fell asleep and the lady in the middle literally climbed over me to get out but knocked me with her foot and woke me up..i couldnt get back to sleep this lady did this to me 3 times during the sleep ... i nearly swapped seats with her i was that annoyed..i hate being woken at the best of times...so now i pick the window seat ...i think the best seat in the middle of the plane is infront of the screen...more room for your legs and there is ample room to walk passed passengers to get out...

I picked window. Living for two years in the Eastern Caribbean you do a lot of island hopping, small 45 minute flights, that never go 'all the way' there. so I like to amuse myself by naming all the small island we pass over. I've gotten pretty good at knowing what side of the plane to sit on the see Barbados the best. I also like sitting near the back. I'm not usually in a big rush, so I just read more of my book while everyone struggles to get their stuff out of the overheads. The flight attendants often sit at the back of the plane too, and when travelling alone, sometimes they will chat and keep you company.

In a 747 44K is at an emergency exit and has more leg room than first class at a economy fare.

So, You've got about a million 'club miles' and play golf with the airline's VP to get that seat? devil.gif
JeroenAndMichelle
Because of my legs I usually prefer an aisle seat so I don't have to worry about getting out (I walk a lot during long flights coz of my long legs.. kinda afraid for those blood thingies), and preferably as far to the front as possible coz there's where you usually have the least problems with any turbulence, if any.

And, of course, the best is an exit seat but it's not always possible to get those (usually not coz people who don't really need it (meaning short legged people) are sitting in these seats.. damn pisses me off when I have to fold myself into a seat).
