Full Version: If VJ had a $5 subscription Fee, would you?

I have been a lurker on a lot of forums, and I have joined a few, but I will not pay the subscription Fee.

By not paying the fee, I cannot use any of the features of the forum. I cannot even edit my own profile.

I was wondering if this happende to VJ....if anybody would stick around or pay the fee. Or be a freeviewer like me tongue.gif

Dangerous poll Savanphil...... don't give e-woks and e-wooks any ideas innocent.gif

I might have at the beginning when we had 8000 questions.

I do think there should be a donate option to help offset server costs and what not.
Addie_Goodvibes
Donation option is a good idea and maybe donors get recognition with a star system under their Avatar.

Paying to get advice that we all give and receiving openly is a bit much.

I think it would change the atmosphere of this Forum.
mercy
I agree wholeheartedly about the donation idea. I've been thinking about that a lot lately, wish there was a way to do so.
William33
In a forum such as this, there may be legal issues in charging for membership. Some stinking lawyer may attack the site again, inferring that members are offering legal advice.

In reality, we offer shared experience and opinion. As you know, lawyers have a keen ability to manipulate reality.
Chris-n-Veronica
I would pay if that was what it took to to be a full member to post and everything.. I would think most would feel that the wealth of info would be worth the $5 fee.. maybe even $5 per month..or $25 lifetime would be better..
But not pay to Join and pay to post... thats silly

I like the donation idea better with brownie points for each month..or year that you donate..

I know of another forum ..it's Music one that to post in certain areas and the Classifieds you have to pay a donation of $30 per year.. and you get a star for each year you donate.. it seems to work very well..

Yes-I would have paid $5 to join without a problem. I learned WAAAY more here than I did at the 3 attorney's offices I consulted with when we first began.
James' shortcuts were priceless to us, as our time apart was hellish...Also, where else can you go to get accurate and instant help for a question on an I-864 at 3:00am when you cannot sleep because you're fretting about it ?

VJ was a tool that helped us immensely. For me, it brought our family together much faster, which means more to me than ANYTHING. I would have paid a king's ransom just for that alone.
Alex+R
I'd much rather have the option to donate.
munchkins
I am sure I would not have minded a one of payment as this site has been a godsend to us in so many ways as we have gone through the process.
A.J.
AFAIK, due to legal issues, VJ can neither accept donations nor charge a fee.
CarolineM
Hmm had I still had to go through the immigration process, maybe...but five bucks just to chat with you lot wink.gif

maybe.

Can we donate to eWok's House of Wookies instead? Or some other entity which has nothing to do with VJ? innocent.gif

i would pay an annual fee of $5 IF i knew the content of the site beforehand - like a trial subscription to get me hooked. i rarely pay for anything sight unseen. $5 is nothing compared to the information available. although many may shy away many members which would detract from the information shared laughing.gif

I suggest Addie_goodvibes entity we kindly accept donations

I would now. But to drop $5 in a kitty before knowing the content of the site? I would have moved on somewhere else.
Knobby_Wheezer
VJ is vital to me and mine getting through this ordeal correctly the *first* time. Yes, I would pay for a subscription (5 bucks, even in USD, is pretty cheap for what I would get). However, I would eventually drift away when I no longer required VJ's services---what's that about 6 or 7 years to get to the very end from the very beginning?
Luis&Laura
If I knew how much info there is here I would, but if I was looking for info and stumbled across VJ and said I needed to pay to use it, then I wouldn't without knowing how much goodies it has.

At first glance I do not think people would pay anything to view VJ. There are other options on the internet that give information free. The problem with the other web sites is that you do not necessarily get someone who has done that and worn the tee shirt. The wealth of information that is available from good people who take time out to tell us what they have learned or experienced is worth a million bucks good.gif

Pay to chat..noooooooo...I mean I have learned alot about immigration here and met new friends...but pay...probbaly not... I usually donnot get into anything that comes with fees for something when I donnot know what I am getting.

Well phooey!

Maybe others will remember too, that there was a time in the past that VJ did accept donations.

If I had to pay a one time $5 fee to be able to join and post, I would. But the topics and posts would have to be able to be shown before someone had to make that decision. So the $5 would allow them to participate instead of just reading(which should be free).
riblet
Knowing what I know now, I would pay... but it would have to be free long enough to hook people smile.gif Also, I think the spirit of this site is such that the posts should be free to read.

Edited: and with that post I just became a Platinum Member, heehee smile.gif
EsOrEnNa
yes i would

When I was first looking for information on the visa process, I probably wouldn't have paid to join a site like this. The fact that it was free was one of the major drawing points. Now that I've been here a while and seen the good information offered, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but it is going to turn off first-timers or people who just have a few minor questions.

That's what I was thinking. A donation on the other hand...
