Hi, All.

Hopefully someone can give me some advice. Our last date for removing conditions is Dec 20. We sent off our petition and it arrived at the Service Center (Vermont) on Dec 12. Now we have noticed that we wrote the check for the wrong amount ($205 instead of $275) and now the check bounced!!! There is enough cash in our account now and we are hoping there will be a second presentation.

Have we screwed up royally?? Do we send off a new petition fedex tomorrow with a new check?

Anyone?

Not a major mistake, they will send you an RFE for the fee, along with a charge of $30 for the bounced check, hopefuly they won't render the petition invalid. You may want to do an info-pass appointment and follow up.

They will probably want a guaranteed payment like a money order.

So Fee is $205 + $70 biometric fee, + $30 bad check fee.

See the Instructions included with the form:

QUOTE
You may submit one check or money order for both the petition and biometric services, for a total of $275.00. NOTE: All applicants, regardless of age, are required to submit the $70.00 biometric services fee.

Checks are accepted subject to collection. An uncollected check will render the petition and any document issued invalid. A charge of $30.00 will be imposed if a check in payment of a fee is not honored by the bank on which it is drawn.

Thanks for the reply! And my heart palpitations have subsided (slightly). What about the part that says that the bounced check renders the petition invalid?

You may want to contact USCIS using an Info-Pass appointment and explain the problem and see if they will continue the petition.

We are Scr#$d if they do not because then we are outside the 90 days. Will probably send of another complete petition tomorow with new form, copies of docs and new chq.

Any thoughts from others?

Update with my situation:

I called the 1 800 number today and spoke with an immigration officer who told me that my NOA has been issued. Not the response I was expecting!

Funnily, she had no information on the fee change..turns out they're late in updating their records too!!

She told me that I will probably get a notice to pay the fee again (for the bounced check), but that it will not affect my petition filing date as they are already processing the application. Interestingly, she said that another option would be to pay the biometrics fee at the center when we get fingerprinted.

Here's hoping the above info is correct. I was about to "same day" fedex a new check and application for the hefty shipping fee of $173.

Thanks to those who comiserated with me!!

Woo - hoo! Check was presented again today and cleared. Guess this means we are in the clear! Now just the little issue of the fee change to deal with...
