Hi everybody! is it true that i can't get my driver lisence untill i'm gonna have my green card?

My wife had her driver's license way before the green card or AOS interview. Some of the folks at DMV are not too familiar with immigration stuff so you might face some huddle, it also depend at what point are you with the AOS, do you have the EAD? but I think even if you go before your I94 expired you would get it.

My DMV asked me to bring evidence of my application to adjust status. I got a notice from them to send proof because my old one has a status check date on it due to my EAD expiring in Feb 07. I am asuming that they will remove the status check note once I send them my receipt notice. So, it may depend on your DMV.

All I needed was a proof af address and a SSN. And I had to write the stinkin test- passed thou. Good Luck, the written test was hard-oh as well, I needed proof of insurance. There you go!

Your profile lacks information like where you live. It depends on which state you live in, most DMV require the long EAD card, others will accept SSN with ID (Oregon), some will issue the permit based on the expiration date on the I-94 card in your passport.

Visit the DMV website for your state and look into the requirements.

as yuanddan said... fill in a bit more background info...

if you entered on a k3 visa, for my state (ms) I cant get a dl until I recieve either a greencard or EAD.... since I couldnt be bothered filing for a EAD my darling hubby gets to chauffeur me. Every state has different requirements for there DMV. Check your states website and see if you qualify.

California will issue a drivers license to someone who has EAD.

Employment Authorization Card is listed under residency documents.

I got my driver's license in California with just SSN and Canadian passport. Had no problems at all, other that I had to get it in my maiden name, since SSN is still not changed to married name and they have to go by what is on SSN.
Good Luck,
Senka
