I got a list of certified English/French translators from the Consulate in Paris. Probably the local consulate for you or your spouse can help.

Depends on what you are trying to translate, and for what purpose.

If you need "official" translations for immigration purposes, there may be guidelines placed upon you by the embassy you are dealing with. For example, for marriage documents for my Colombian wife, we had to have a translator that was "registered" or "approved" with the embassy in Colombia.

For general translations, check your local colleges and schools. Often they have teachers that will do translation work on the side. You can also always search the internet for your local area.

i am trying to translate my husband's birth certificate and the marriage certificate to send with the first package, accompanying the g25a and 1-130 ... to my understanding this needs to be officially translated, so i was planning to get it done by someone certified, unless anyone has other feedback on this (as in it can just be a friend or something of that nature..)

GOOGLE!

It does not need to be a done by a "certified" translator. It needs to be certified by someone competent (fluent) in both the native language and English. If your friend meets the qualification then they can do it
