So the scenario:
You have a clean baking pan that was sitting on your stove overnight. You go to put the pan away and discover a spider in it. The spider is collected in a paper towel, the pan wiped with the paper towel.
edit: To be clear, there were no arachnid "guts" in the pan, it had just walked around in it, hoping to escape before the wrath, I'm sure.
My hubby and I won't be voting as it would cancel each other out...

heh I'm going to use that. People who haven't been here might believe it. I'm sooo not a housekeeper.
To answer the earlier question, I re-washed it. I'm a heebie jeebie spider type.

I know it was pretty silly. Hubby just goes along with it.

As for bugs etc., I stopped eating Chips Ahoys cookies for months at age 8 when my Dad informed me there were bug pieces that could have been ground up in the flour. Apparently at 8, I thought that it was *only* Chips Ahoy so the other cookies were 'safe'.

I'm off to work! Y'all have fun!

Same here. No telling what walks across pans and tableware when you aren't looking. I sure wouldn't wash things I use on a daily basis before using them again. I do however wash larger pots or special dishes that have been sitting in a cupboard for awhile.

I'm female and wouldn't do a damn thing to the pan. It's a spider for chrissakes. It isn't like a dog has taken a crap in it. And spider crap? Sure we have eaten loads of it in our time. It REALLY isn't going to do us any harm.
Obsessive sterilising of house hold objects is what's making humans less resilient to bacteria.
There was an investigation a few years back in the UK regarding leukemia rates in young children. The rates for well off parents with sterilised homes was almost double than those whose children grew up in dirtier homes. There is a direct risk between excessive cleaning (to the point of anti bac on everything, not just general tidyness) and childhood leukemias.
Excessive cleaning with antibacterial agents reduces the effectiveness of our immune systems. Think about that when you feel the need to wash a pan just because a spider was in it.....

I'm more particular about my kitchen and food preparation than I am with anything else in the house. So a) I wouldn't have left the pan out and

if I had, I would have washed it after removing the spider. I'm not bothered by insects, rodents, or reptiles... I prefer not to have them in my house, though.
What you don't know doesn't hurt you, though, right??

I learned you should always wash a pan before you use it. That way it's the cleanest right before you put food in it.
Besides, I never learned any rule that you should always wash a pan after a spider craps in it.
Don't wash it now, wash it later.

I'm female and first of all I'd take the spider in my hands and let it outside or on a plant. No way would I bother to wash it. Geez, there are more bacteria on your hands than a flippin spider. I agree with Mags -- the obsession with cleaning products is what's making us less immune. I'm clean, my house is clean, but I like to keep my immune system healthy too.

Just wanted to add that I'm right with Mags & Lou Lou on the obsession with cleaning products & antibacterial stuff in particular... right up there with overprescription of antibiotics (and more to the point, people who go whining to their doctor demanding antibiotics every other week because they have a slight sniffle) among my major bugbears! We'd have much better immune systems (and, without being a scientist, I honestly believe there would be less of a problem with super-resistant bacteria like MRSA) if we'd just put up with a bit of 'dirt' now and again! I swear the sickliest people I know are the most cleaning-obsessed, and the parents who have to douse everything in disinfectant constantly to 'protect' their kids are going to end up with sicklier kids still.
At least, that's my entirely non-scientifically-based couple of cents' worth!
