Hey Everyone!

My fiancee and I live in the UK so he's having his interview here in London, but he's an Australian citizen. I know this means he has to have both a police check from the UK and one from Australia.

Does anyone know what kind of police check he needs from Australia? I looked online and they offer several kinds -just a general short one, a longer one, and finger print one.

I'm hoping they don't require the finger print one as I imagine that means we have to get his finger prints done here and then someone transfered to australia!!! -probably through the police department here in the UK direct to the police department in Australia.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. We haven't even gotten our NOA1 yet, but I'm just trying to figure this stuff out as it might take a while to get them done, especially since we're not in the same country. Also, does anyone know how long the police checks are good after you get them? I know they supposedly last for 12 months in the UK, but how long will the American embassy accept them?

Wow thanks! I'll take a good look at these and hopefully be able to figure everything out! For now I have to go to class though!

I've just had a look on those websites and, unless I missed it, I don't think it says what USCIS wants! Does anyone know if they want a finger print test or just a basic police check!? There are very different prices, so I don't want to spend a bunch of money if I don't have to.

The page indicated that this is for visa applications, though if the simple name check or finger-print check is not indicated.

I would email them at vetting@afp.gov.au And ask which type of check is normal for people applying for visas.

Thanks everyone. And to those that seemed to be getting annoyed at me for 'not reading the links', I did! No where on there did it mention which one was *probably* required for a visa. I figured I'd ask if anyone had gone though this before and knew exactly which type the American consulate would want to have. Yes, I could email the guy at AFP -and I will- but if a VJer went through the same process I figured it would be easier for them to answer...as I've had experience emailing/calling actually places before and it is very hard to get a direct answer out of them.

Some people post and ask the stupidest/simplest questions -IMP- and everyone gets them the answers instead of telling them to look at the guides, yet others ask questions and get answers implying that they weren't paying enough attention to find the answers themselves. I'm not trying to complain here, but simply pointing out that VJ is a place that people can try to get information from people that have gone through the process before and that is all I was trying to do in my question.

Again, thanks for your help and I'll email the AFP and see what they say. I'll also post what they say in case anyone else needs to know.

I just did the AFP police check. For visa applications you are required to get yoru finger prints taken and they perform a finger print and character check.

Costs $130 if you are here in Canberra.

Not sure how it works if you are OS.
