For now I would suggest the My Story text area. That is available there.

This is for extra security to prevent people from using the same ID with a different IP address. If it changes you get logged out for security and to be safe .

I am having problems with the font, sizes, and colors. I just learne how to use them, but since the new change... I can't figure it out

prior to the upgrade, there was a box marked "PM" on every post made by someone. it made it easier to pm someone but now one has to go to their profile, open it up and so on and so forth. is it possible to have that feature restored?

CLick on their name and on the pull down tab is a PM Option . Same speed just different location (hidden to a degree) :-p.

Good to hear I'm not the only one missing being able to view signatures in people's profiles (I had to switch off signatures etc at work because, for some unfathomable reason, pages were only half-loading until I did that, and my browser kept freezing up)... forgive me for being dense, but I've looked and can't find the "My Story" text area. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

its on the left side of the profile - its called OUR STORY though. I actually had to turn on the signatures to view something and turned them right back off. /ugh i find them so annoying, and its a pain to have to turn them on and back off again through 'my controls'.

Aha! I can see the 'our story' bit now (thank you ), but can't see any signature-type stuff anywhere, still. So I think I misunderstood something somewhere along the line! And yep, I've done that a couple of times - turned signatures back on to see if I'm missing anything that's visible to everyone else, then turned them right off again! It was great being able to click on someone's profile to see their signature - I didn't realise quite how great until the function disappeared!

Re: related topics
I use this feature a lot because searches often do not bring me to where I expect to be. However, I can find what I am looking for by clicking related topics and clicking those related on the next page and so on until I arrive at the answer to my original question. When I asked a question about how to renew passports when not in Canada (that never got answered as far as I know), I found the answer on my own by using the related posts feature. If this feature is gone, then I will have to resort to asking the same annoying questions repeatedly and bothering all the non-new members (see the posts under the topic with a heading something like "Newbies really bug me. Can we have them go to a forum just for them?" or something of that tone [found it: "Filtering New Member Questions."]).

Re: slow-loading signatures
I just hit "stop" at the top of my browser. The posts will still load, but all the animations won't. If you use IE, you can go into the advanced tab of tools and prevent animations, videos and all that junk from loading anywhere, not just VJ. I haven't figured out how to do it yet with Firefox.

Also, it's just plain lucky that you can keep up with VJ at work. I am locked out of all sites except wikipedia and dictionary.com---oh, and the company website, of course (to which I have no access because I have no password because I haven't been there long enough to have been given a password).

I have Firefox set to clear everything every time that I close the browser so cache clearing is never an issue.

Dunno if I have written anything useful, but I'm going now.

I will work on adding all the features you guys described above soon. Related Topics, Adding Signature to profile view, etc. .

Related Topics was very helpful to find answers, especially if someone can't utilize the search features.

I cant use the Add Reply anymore. I have to use the Fast Reply.............and my emotions are not working either.

Sometimes hitting 'stop' seems to do the trick, and other times there's nothing I can do but close the browser altogether and start again - mostly it just seems to freeze up completely, and I have no idea why. I didn't know you could stop animations etc from loading in IE (I use a Mac at home so am a bit clueless about IE and Windows-stuff in general) - I'll give that a try, thank you!

Oh, and yep... being able to get on VJ (and just about any other site, for that matter) at work is a definite bonus - I know I'm luckier than a lot of people in that respect, glitches or no glitches!

Question about the field length of our stories in our profiles...

I have a rather lengthy story and when I go in to amend it (even to take some words out), I get an error message that the field length is too long. Is there a different character limit now? Didn't think there was one before...

I have moved/added the 'My Story' and Forums Signature to their own tab in the Profile View. I think this is much cleaner looking . People had also requested that the signatures be visible there.

No, you should not. The post-combining feature put unrelated information together often as not, causing some information to get 'lost' among other, different information. And it quickly became ugly when people quoted the whole combined post trying to respond to only one item in the post. Even uglier when they tried to edit out the irrelevant material and messed up the 'quote' 'unquote' pairs.

Keep posts short and focused for clarity of the issues.

Hmm . . . I have never known how to use the multi-quote feature and wondered about it when I saw it. I have few clues about how to use most anything here as this is the first "board" to which I have belonged. I only noticed that once I accidentally hit either + Quote or " Reply instead of ADDREPLY and ended up with quoted stuff.

I am also not concerned about whether I mess up the html. I depend on my intention being obvious. Yes-yes, very trusting, I know. :-)

As for the Profile area: I didn't know how to navigate around the old one so there isn't much difference to me. I am *not* complaining, either, btw. I must watch others crawling to get an idea about how to do it myself.

Overall, though, I like what I see.

At the right-hand side of the blue thread-title bar, at the top of any thread, is a drop-down box labeled 'Options'. Within it is a section labeled 'Display Modes'. You have 'Outline' selected, change to 'Standard'.
