Arrived last week into the states on my CR-1 immigrant visa. I was wanting to know when i should expect my SS number.Does it arrive via mail or must i apply in person at the social security office.
A letter with my visa explains that if I requested a SSnumber in application it should be mailed to me.I am fairly sure i did request this but as of yet nothing has arrived and too be honest i dont just want to wait with the view that isnt the case

any experience or advise with this?

If you applied before you arrive, it takes several weeks for the transfer of information to the SSA to occur. It has been reported that it is faster to wait and apply in person.
