maybe that part is due to scorpions? (it's a good idea to not walk around barefoot in your house in south texas for that very reason)

Ha.

Actually, it's more dangerous to put on your shoe, at least without shaking it first -- they like to hide in dark places.

No scorpions in my house. Except of course my husband and I (we are both Scorpios) devil.gif

my dad lives in san antonio, remember? he's learned to wear shoes even inside for that reason laughing.gif

if anyone has them around, it's a good reason to have a cat yes.gif

Whatttt ??? So they can sting the cat ???? crying.gif

I remember you mentioning that your father lives in SA. However, I have to say that I've never EVER seen a scorpion inside my house, or any place that I've lived here (although I did see one in a vacation condo I rented down at Padre Island... moseying across the living room rug.) Found some other "interesting" critters, but no scorpions. (*knock on wood*) I sometimes encounter them outside in the garden, but only very rarely -- usually when I'm moving rocks.

most cats i've seen have quite a bit of fur on their paws, odds are they won't be hurt.
i can find scorpions all day long outside at my dads. and same when i lived in corpus.
edit to add - but the ones you find under rocks are not under those rocks at night..........

My husband HATES it when there is air on in the car... hot air, cold air... he hates it. If the windows fog up, he rolls down the windows. Whenever I say I feel sick ... "It's because you drive with the air on." Ummm NO I'm pretty sure it's because YOU drive with the windows down when its 20 degrees out.

OMG STewart is the same way!! That's funny!

we haven't gotten rid of the dog..but certain rules have definitely been met. It isn't as much of a mess as it looks... cross my heart blush.gif
I could have american bread in the house but if I get it, half the loaf goes bad since now my son prefers pita bread. It isn't worth the money for me to buy my bread unless I know we are going to be having toast a lot or something. The pasta thing is the same...its not worth it to make it for just 1 (yep thats right, my son doesn't like pasta either) I have 2 very picky eaters in my house.
about the tabouli..Noor says the same thing....it can't be made from a box. I trust him on that but honestly didn't find any difference in taste between his style and the box. maybe I just don't know my tabouli laughing.gif
All I can say is thank God for cheese piza, chicken strips, and hamburgers. They are almost the only american foods we eat.
all the other stuff could have been lumped into a few categories ... I just lengthened them to give you all a laugh laughing.gif whistling.gif there were definitely a LOT of things we both had to adjust to that neither of us even thought of asking before he got here........ It has been a total blast though...I love him more every day luv.gif

I understand about the computer thing... the computer at home is now in french laughing.gif and I don't want to learn french mad.gif biggrin.gif ... so I do my computer work at work...

I live in San Antonio too and have never once seen a scorpian in anyone's house. Does he live outside of 1604? Maybe if he lives on the outskirts of town that could be an issue? Because I have seen them in the country, but not really in the city limits.

I wish I had that problem with mine.. He doesn't eat enough. Since he got here, he has lost around 20 lbs. He doesn't eat if I'm not at hom ewith him unless I call him from work and make him promise to eat. If he says he promises, then he has to..the man can't break a promise..

oo oo ooo 1 thing I forgot is...we were taught at a very young age some degree of etiquette. No talking with ur mouth full, do not shove food into ur mouth, SLOW DOWN FOR GODS SAKE, YOU'RE NOT IN A FIRE, don't gulp...sip... My husband was not taught a single one of these things. NOT ONE!!! He says they all eat like that there and I do distinctly remember being shocked at their table/floor manners (or the lack there of) now, there was no burping or passing gas (i was thankful for that).
Here, I constantly am telling my son to slow down and all the other things I stated above. Noor always says, let him eat.. hehe so I tell Noor he needs to slow down as well (and the other things too) We are always laughing about that. He tells me I'm too slow and I tell him he is too fast laughing.gif

This reminds me of my first visit to Morocco. Everyone wanted so much to impress me, and was being so careful to use utinsils and separate plates for our first meal together. Well, I already knew that it is customary to all eat from the same plate and use your hands. I just started to grab food from the main plate with my hands and ate away. They all stared at me with their mouths open.

I wanted to make sure that they felt 100% comfortable around me, and that it is more important to me that they are enjoying their dinner than trying to impress me. My husband told me they were quite happy to be themselves.

Of course at home I switch back to my usual ways, habits die hard.

I am a little anal about having my own cup unless it is my husband. One time, when I was with my ex, his friend picked up my glass and was drinking from it. I hardly even knew the guy let alone share my glass. Needless to say I didn't drink any more of it. <ewww>

I don't like sharing my drink with people I don't know either but I will share with family and most definitly my fiance. However there are 3 things I absoulutly cannot share with anyone INCLUDING my fiance, milk, cereal with milk, and ice cream. I don't know why but sharing those things discusts the hell out of me. laughing.gif

One of my friends today was talking to me about adjusting to sharing sleeping space, hehe!!

Well, if you are used to 4 cats in your bed and the hubster says no cats in the bed, then you have a little problem . . . but hopefully are able to work it out.

But what do you do about the covers, hehe!!??? She said something about separate covers and I am wondering how that would all work . . . split the bed in half? 2 sets of sheets and blankets on one bed? I am still boggled about trying to adjust to cold vs hot bedroom . . . i like lots of covers and a cold sleeping room.

Well, I guess time will tell . . .

Well, I guess time will tell . . .

Hicham and I have yet to be able to share covers for an entire night. My comforter is not huge so when he rolls over he takes it all with him. I have blankets waiting on the sidelines in case that happens. It's not worth trying to take them back from him because he just pulls back!

Well, if you are used to 4 cats in your bed and the hubster says no cats in the bed, then you have a little problem . . . but hopefully are able to work it out.

But what do you do about the covers, hehe!!??? Godddddd Mahmoud is the WORST blanket thief. It doesn't matter how many blankets and pillows we start with.... by the wee hours of the morning, he has them ALL. And he's sprawled diagonally across the bed with his arms and legs every which way... I wake up to find myself freezing and teetering off the edge of one small corner of the bed. *Sigh* I just shove him over and repossess my rightful share of the blankets and pillows.... or go get an extra one from the wardrobe.

We are planning to get a king-sized bed in our next house (need a bigger bedroom for that) .... maybe that will help.

haha that sounds so familiar. I always sleep against the wall because I know I won't fall anywhere that way.

mine likes heavy covers in a hot room. I like few covers in a cold room. we do have seperate blankets at times coz I just can't stand the double sided thick-as-heck blanket that he likes. The part that gets me is the warm room... why have a warm room ... the BLANKETS are to keep you WARM .. not the electric company... I'll usually wake up in the middle of the night and turn the heat off (or at least down a bit)... he'll wake up in the morning going .."dedededededededed ...heedee heedee heedee... adda adda adda adda... add ur own cold noises here" ... its quite funny... We play temperature wars in our house... he'll go thru turning the heat up and I go thru turning the heat down... same way with turning the lights on and off.. hehehe.... I wouldn't trade him for the world..he keeps my days interesting

I am laughing so hard over everyone's stories about the fight over the covers in the bedroom . . . I can always use a good laugh . . . humour is so important in our lives.

You know that they say ppl live longer who are optimistic (not me . . . big cynic that I am) and can laugh at themselves and things around them . . . I do laugh alot at times so obviously I am not a total lost cause. It just seems that sometimes the waiting going thru this process makes it much easier to cry.

One day at a time . . . .
menmy

I couldn't believe the pile of sandals they had for everyone at the door. Then I'd see them wearing each other's. I saw my fiance walking around in some of his sister's pretty sandals sometimes too. laughing.gif Then when I saw someone put mine on, I had to contain myself! I just couldn't get over the fact that someone else's feet were in my shoes. ohmy.gif

laughing.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif I came downstairs one morning to find all of the rugs off the floors, soaking wet outside and his sisters using the garden hose in the house. The water was running all over the floors. I must have had a really horrified look on my face because his sisters, aunts and his mom started laughing when they saw me. unsure.gif

laughing.gif laughing.gif My fiance always tells me if he can hear that I have a sniffle or a cold that I must have gone outside with my hair wet. The last time he told me this, I must have heard the thought that went through my head as always (yeah right, you've got to be kidding me) because before I could say anything he added, "I don't know. That's what my mother always tells me." laughing.gif

I know the temperature is going to be a big problem for us when he gets here. The rental car we had in Morocco was always too cold for him with the a/c on. He always had to have the window open. One of us will always be either too cold or too hot I'm sure.

The whole sharing the glass thing. My face tells all what I'm thinking about and feeling so I really had to really fight hard to be sure not to let my eyes bug out of my head whenever someone would use my glass at his family's house. I loved it when they would bring a bottle of water and then one glass for the dozen or so people sitting around the table. blink.gif That and I love to drink a lot of water when I'm eating. So compared to them, I felt like I was guzzling the water so I would try not to hog the one water glass form everyone else. But then I'd find all of the bread (which I am soooo not used to eating) getting caught in my throat because my throat was so dry from the bread. They always wondered why I was eating so slow. I didn't want to say that I was practically choking trying to get the bread down. I told my fiance that I had eaten more bread with him in two weeks than I had in 2 years. Then he proceded to tell his mother that for me...

Humor! Whew! It's not just me then! laughing.gif I have had those lectures too. We can laugh about so many things but once in a while, there will be something that I said and he will go on and on so serious about why it isn't funny. whistling.gif

I tried to get all the quotes for all of these things. I need to practice figuring that out some more.

When your SO's did get here, how much stuff did they bring with them? How much room will I really have to make in my closet and dressers?

I wish I had that problem with mine.. He doesn't eat enough. Since he got here, he has lost around 20 lbs. He doesn't eat if I'm not at hom ewith him unless I call him from work and make him promise to eat. If he says he promises, then he has to..the man can't break a promise..

I had that worry when Rachid came that he would loose weight, but I have some tricks that I use and he has gained over 20 ibs.
*I make a big class of whatever and just take a little drink and say "oh im done you have the rest" and he drinks it all
*I always put way extra cheese on whatever he is going to eat
*extra mayo on his sandwiches
*I get him cookies and I'll take just half of one and give him the rest
oh and saturdays when I have the morning off I make the biggest breakfast .. if I eat slow he keeps eating if I get up from the table he will get up too... so I eat slow... biggrin.gif

When i was in Morocco i did go barefoot constantly guess that wasnt prob for him, he did say he was sick the whole time due to a/c in rental car, hotel rooms, fan(s) i turned on the bed at night but i was HOT!!. I had already made him promise i didnt have to try the (take aim) restroom ha luckly his sisters house and most places we went i was covered wink.gif

The meals werent bad, they did mostly use their hands but i got special treatment im sure, had my own plate and utensils but the mom did keep putting food on my plate and making sure i had a napkin etc. The brothers did tend to talk and laugh with mouth full of food ha. If we had the fish, Ahmed was always taking it off the bone for me.

In their family the sister is married and has a child but every weekend they come back to the family home to spend the weekend also for vacation times and holidays (even tho they live in same city not 15 minutes away) this i could not understand.

Ahmeds manners are the stickler for him, if he asks How are you today and you replay maybe say fine then continue on with conversation he will come back and say IM FINE THANK YOU FOR ASKING i tried explaining to him dont come here think all Americans are going to be that polite its not going happen ha

Oh and the police - they stopped him for high speed but he was in process of passing you would have thought he had commited bad crime he was so beside himself, pacing, talking with officer and finally gave officer money to (let it go) told him dont try that here you will be in more trouble.

Sure theres more...... whistling.gif whistling.gif
