Hi,

Well after 7 weeks of working for an agency the company i work has made me a permanet offer. The hours are 10am - 7pm monday - friday. The money is quite good considering this is my first US job.

The only problem is the hours. As i live an hour away from boston my day would be leave train station at 7:55 and be back at home by 8:40 pm that night. My wife works a normal 8-5 job sometimes earlier depending how busy her schedule is as she is an OT.

ATM my working day is leave station at 5:55am and i am back home at 6:50 pm.

My problem is whether i should accept or keep looking for jobs as my ideal hours would be 7:30-4:30. Is it normal to accept an offer of employment but keep looking if something with better hours becomes available. Other than the hours the job is ideal for me at the moment.

I work in Boston, I leave home at 7:10am and get back home at 6:15pm takes about 1 hour to get to and from work.... there is nothing to stop you from taking the job and continueing to look for something better....

Have you tried talking to the company to see if they would allow you to work the times you want.... if it is the same number of hours per day they not have an issue with this... they can only say no...

The hours are set in stone as i will be replacing somebody else. I think i will accept the offer and just keep looking on the quiet for better hours. By march i should have 5 years IT experience so will make it easier to get the job i want and the hours that will suit me. Thanx for the advice.

My husband is working a 4:30 pm to 1:00 am job right now in order just to get some work experience. His days off are Tuesday and Wednesday. And we don't have trains here - I take him to work and pick him up. 26 miles one way.

I work a typical 9 to 5 stint. Weekends off.

We have almost as much face time as we did in our LDR.

The only problem I see with your plan is that the short job duration on your resume could be seen as a negative. reading.gif
