Looks like a few of us may be separated from our squeezes this Christmas. But hey, we can send cards, talk on the phone, buy gifts to give when we see one another, and generally be grateful that this journey will be over at some point. Absence makes the heart grow ...

Oh how nice Cassie! Joel and I would love to go home for Christmas, but it's just not possible right now. Depending on what's going on in April, we may try to go during Spring Break (school break that is) for a week.
*sigh* Eat some poutine for me, eh?

We've been invited up for the family celebration but I'm not sure work schedules will allow. If we do manage it, it would likely be a day trip only.
We're planning a week or so in the Spring for sure.

Have a great time back "home", Cassie!

(P.S. Hey, remember those ornaments I made last year and then forgot to put on the tree? Guess what was first up today when we started decorating!

I'm going home for a few days next weekend actually. I can't get Christmas week off from work cuz I'm the newbie, plus its month end and no one in the business office can take month end off.
Anyhoo, I'm leaving Friday and coming back Wednesday. We're going to see Wicked on Saturday afternoon, and having "Christmas" dinner at my Mum's on Sunday.

We'll be going from Dec 26 to Jan 2. It's so pricey for the three of us to fly from TN to Vancouver, then rent a car and take the ferry to Vancouver Island.

I keep thinking I could have a diamond tennis bracelet (the most frivolous expensive item I can think of!) in no time if we didn't have to travel back & forth so much! But it's worth it, for family.

Yes, I remember those beautiful ornaments-- glad you're on the ball this year!

I'm just plain excited, we haven't been home since last September, and it's been driving me crazy, with my dad having to go through chemo (outpatient, thank goodness), my grandparents not getting any younger, and my neice and nephew growing up so fast..... *sigh* Wherever you all celebrate, I really do hope you all have a fantastic Christmas.

I tried to convince James to take me to see it either in NY or London, but no go. So I'm going home to see it without him
Its actually cheaper to fly to TO to see it than go to NYC anyway.

I'll be spending my first Christmas with David here in the US and then I go back home to Canada on the 1st to get my medical done etc in time for the interview. I'm very happy to be with David, but sure will miss my family in the GTA and my parents in Trinidad (where I usually spend Christmas).

Derek and I are driving up to Montreal from DC, will spend a few days there and then on our way back south stop at my Mom's in Vermont for actual Christmas. Best of both worlds, if a bit heavy on the driving

Since I'm not entering the US until January, Gene decided to come up here to spend Christmas with me! This is the first Christmas we've spent together. Everyone thinks he's crazy to come up here at this time of year. Just hope it's warmer than -40 this year or he'll never come back for Christmas!

I'm not sure if it's that I'm on the ball this year, or so annoyed with myself last year that I put them on top of all the ornaments.

If I can find my digital camera, I might dust off my craft blog and post a picture of our tree.

Wishing you all the best for your visit home and your holiday season!

Yes, I imagine it is cheaper in Toronto. Hotels are crazy nuts here.
I live about 2 hours from downtown (60 miles) and a room around here is still 200 bucks.

Planning to drive from Boise Idaho to Vancouver on the 22nd of December, coming back on the 27th of December. It's a 12 hour trip one way. It's all going to depend on the road conditions in the mountain passes of Washington state.

How much would it cost me to rent a room at your house?

I used to go to New Jersey (Secaucus area) for work quite a bit. There's hotels there still under $200 a night (just barely) and only a 15 minute bus ride into the city. Thru the tunnel. Or take the ferry across, which is much more interesting, or the subway. I prefer the ferry. I don't like tunnels

I was hoping to NOT be in Canada for Christmas!
It just doesn't work with our schedules for me to move yet. He spent last Xmas here with me so he needs to be home with family this year. Can't get a reasonable ticket to come up for New Years, so it looks like the separation will continue. I will hang out among my packed belongings, read books and watch Food TV.

Is anyone could tell us if we have to submit police certificate (or nocriminal record) from Canada When we adjsut status in US. Is this based on fingerprint or based on name check?

Well, it is official - we are also going to Canada for Christmas this year! We had talked about it earlier but hadn't made any definite plans. Then my brother invited us for Christmas so we looked at flights - and moved quickly - even during the day while we checked out flights the prices were increasing dramatically and the available seats were going down!. As it is we missed affordable non-stop tickets to Ottawa so we will have a connecting flight through Detroit with a 3 hour layover on the way down and 1 1/2 hours on the way back . This will be my first time back to Canada since I moved here on my K-1 in May 2004. We'll be flying out December 22 and returning home the 27th. Tim Horton fix, here I come!
(Hmm - better go and see what coldweather winter gear I have packed away in storage - we're going to need it! Hehehe.

Nope, haven't been back to Canada for Christmas for years. My wifies and I have never gone to Canada or to Georgia (where her folks live) for Christmas together. Not by lack of trying, it's just hard with her work schedual every year, so once again it'll be just us two as it has for the past 3 years...

Since we went to Canada for 2 weeks at the end of June/beginning of July, we won't be going to Canada for Xmas BUT my 2 oldest kids (Fawn, almost 24 and Justin, 18) will be getting here on December 26th and staying till Jan 3!
Annnnnnnd...despite the fact that I've only been an employee at the inn for a total of 6 months (worked there from beginning of March to the end of June, left for the summer and been back since Sept. now) my boss gave me all the time off that my 2 oldest kids are here!
Alli and I are psyched! Even debating on whether or not we should celebrate our Xmas day a day later when Fawn and Jus can get here....
Or half and half or something.
