Tomorrow I will be contacting the newly opened Peruvian Consulate here in Atlanta in order to have my wife vote absentee. I will post what the procedure is in our case of Peru.

But post your own stories and procedures in this thread for others to read. Thanks

I recently sent off paperwork to the Australian Electoral Commission to register as an overseas elector. See here for info: http://www.aec.gov.au/_content/what/enrolm...htm#os_yearmore

I also registered for a postal vote for the upcoming State election. Fingers crossed they deliver the ballot papers to the correct place.

There's no real voting going on where my wife is from. It's a non-issue for us.

I looked into registering as overseas voter for the UK but I have to have the form signed by another UK citizen... difficult when you dont know anyone else from the UK....

So guess I dont get to vote anywhere...

For Canada, i signed up online. They mailed me a Special ballot, filled it out and mailed it in. I had to look up online who was running in my zone. Very easy process. As a non resident of Canada, you can vote for up to 5 yrs after the date that you departed!!

How did this go as I was under the impression that peru did not have a voter absentee program.
All the info I found stated that the person had to go to the embassy the day of the election and vote then.

Any Info will be helpful

Thanks

I've had some thoughts about it but have not taken any action. Maybe I should though.

I have exactly the same problem I really wanted to vote at the last election and was dumbfounded by the stupidity of this bit of red tape. Maybe we should start a swap club of the "i'll do yours if you'll do mine variety " laughing.gif

That would make it something like a vote swinger club? unsure.gif whistling.gif

becky,

i contacted them before i left australia and they said don't worry about changing the address because if you've been overseas for more than (i think) 6 years (could be less) they take you off the electoral role anyway. so they would take me off the role straightaway.

the only reason i contacted them was, because having been a private investigator back home, my address on the electoral role was bogus...one of the easiest ways to find someone.

Thanks for the info, Matt. I want to stay on the Federal electoral roll, so that's why I registered. You're right, it's only valid for 6 years and then you need to contact them again. It turns out you can't do the same for the State electoral roll, but you can register for postal vote. I received my ballot papers just the other day, so all's good. smile.gif
