Hello,

I am wondering if any of you know whether the fiance visa interview at the consulate is audiotaped or videotaped. I suspect that it might be so that it could be used for evidentiary purposes in cases where there is litigation involving what was said or done by anyone during the interview process. Also, whether any of you know how long the consulate retains said video or audio tapes.

Could you call the consulate and ask if they do? Even if some consulates do I imagine that some consulates wouldn't, so it may be different for each country anyway.

Why would you want to know this ?, does it matter if it is taped ?

When my husband went for his K1 interview at the Montréal Consulate he was neither videotaped or audiotaped. Maybe it's consulate specific.

Some of the consulates are rather noisy and have no privacy - you go to one of several windows and talk to the interviewer (almost like buying a ticket in a movie theater.) I doubt any of them tape these.
Your AOS interview on the other hand is taped (it is mentioned on your appointment letter) - I didn't see a camera but with the small sizes, who knows! Good Luck

The consulates are US territory and our freedom to privacy dictates that they have to inform you if you are being videotaped or recorded.

Thank you all very much for your responses. I am particulary curious if the consulate in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, either videotapes or audiotapes these interviews. If I know whether other consulates record the interviews, I will have a better idea as to whether this consulate does.

I am quite sure our interview was NOT taped. I don't know where they would have put the camera. You could pose that question to our forum members at www.dominicanstotheusa.com if you want. We have several people who had interviews this month and more that have December interviews.

Thank you for that information. How was the demeanor of agent who interviewed you and your fiance?

Our agent was very pleasant but my members are telling me there is a woman there right now who is apparently from hell. All I can say is be as prepared as you can and you will have no trouble. Don't give them a reason to deny you.
