What a laugh. My interview was for 2.00pm. No one was there to interview me. I go and find someone. Gave them my interview letter. They came back half an hour later. Someone is looking into it.One hour later someone else comes . I WILL START THE INTERVIEW THE MANAGER IS BUSY. The person who interviews me is the cashier. Then they offer me $4.00 an hour. They told me the manger was busy. I cant believe companies run like this. Then they offered me the position. If they think i'm going to work their for $4.00 an hour. They have another think coming. I thought i would give you my experience .

Kath,

I live in New Orleans. I applied at JC penney and Dillards. They both offered $ 6 / hr + $2 bonus if I force customers to sign up for the store credit card.
Starbucks offers $7.5 base pay.What a joke.
Good luck.

I was very lucky to get a retail job at $10 per hour for holiday work. I guess they were desperate. Even so I can't believe they tried to offer you $4ph, What's minimum wage over here?

I know what you mean!! I had an appointment for a interview at Victoria secret the other day and the manager went to lunch on me sayin ill be back in 10 minutes...I had to wait 45 minutes! The pay is 7 $ and you might get a free bra every once in a while. Personally I worked there 1 day...I got tired of all these stuck up girls that think they are so pretty just cause they work at victoria secret!! But I dont know you might like it!
I worked at Dillards also and here they offer 9.00$ but you got a sellin quota to reach at the end of the month or you get fired. It can get very stressful...needless to say I lasted only 2weeks there biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Certain classes of jobs are exempt from min. wage laws particularly if it is seasonal or in food service.

Mininum wage set by congress is $5.15 an hour. States and local communities have the power to set a minimum wage higher than this in their own state.

some jobs are exempted and included the following-

1) Under the age of 20 for the first 90 days of employment

2) Certain full time students, apprentices and disabled workers

3) tip earners (but if tips and minimum wage paid do not equal $5.15 per hour then employer mus make up the difference in salary.)

Thanks for your replies. Just thought i let you know my experiences. It was the hanging around that got to me. How do people live on $4.00 an hour. I think i'll go apply with the company i used to work at . Just wanted a change. I worked at ASDA as a Fresh Food Manager. Which is part of Wal Mart Family.

Thanks Kath.

I had my first job interview yesterday as well, working for AARP. Think it went well but haven't heard anything yet... I'm waiting for the phone call...

$4 a hour - I hoped you laughed in their faces! How would work for that!!! Sorry you had such a bad experience Kath. Hopefully a better job will come along good.gif

Every State has a different Minumum wage --- in Washington state it it 7.89 an hour -- my 17 year old son just got a raise to 8. 20 an hour after working for 4 months as a dishwasher --- + he gets a 10.00 meal every shift and tips on top of all that at about 5% of the take of all the waiters --- not bad for a kid --

4 dollars an hour is just shameful and if the person I was supposed to interview with showed up late --- I would take that as the first clue to the level of concern they would have with you and your job had you taken it --- good for you --- selling stuff on e-bay can get you more money than that ---
