Every interview we go for do we have to have a drugs test. Before a company will hire you? Is this true? Then you have to wait 60 days Before you know you have been accepted. So does that mean you have all these interviews and you dont know where you stand.

No i don't think that is the case... It depends on the company obviously, but I've not had to have any drugs tests as of yet.

Holy sentance structure laughing.gif

Some companies require drug screening prior to hiring, but the 60 days? Companies can use a *probationary period* that is typically 90 days.

I've never had to do a drug test. I'm 41 and have been working here since I was 16 1/2.

Every job I got a position in has a pre employement drug test.

EVERY SINGLE JOB!

Get used to it.

Never had one and I've worked for big corporations and small companies.

I had to have a drug test to get this job I have now. I had my interview on Thursday, drug test on Friday and started on Monday. I've no idea why you'd have to wait 60 days to start a job. Other than some companies take a really really long time to decide on who to hire. Just because you get an interview and drug test doesn't mean necessarily that they *will* hire you. Don't sit around for 2 months doing nothing, get back out there and find some other company who is actually hiring Now.

ive had plenty of drug tests before employment and during...fun fun fun

yeah, but companies don't usually pay to have someone drug screened unless they are serious about hiring them. or in my experience anyway.

The ones I've had (even for working as an answering service operator in my teens!) were immediate results. I went in on a Thursday and monday was called and told the job was mine.

Others may have you take one after they hire you then you'll have your standard 90 day probation period that if the results come back positive within those 90 days you're a goner. As long as you aren't taking drugs it's just a matter of peeing in cup and not a big deal. I wouldn't sweat it biggrin.gif it won't drag the job hunt out!

Good luck! star_smile.gif

Thanks for your help as i have two interviews tomorrow depending on the tests. Also i'm over qualified for both of them. I thought i have to start some where. I hope they think the same way.

I work in health care company, so drug test is a must. They get the result in 3 days I believe, you can also ask for expediture and get it in 24 hrs. Not all companies require this, but most of them do around where I live. I think the wait time is only 7 days tops.

It is just so bizarre to me!
nyseness
Yes most jobs have drug testing and there should only be a three day waiting period.

I got a PT admin job in a hospital and didn't require a drug test. Someone I know got a job as a bookkeeper in a auto repair shop and had to get one. Depends on the company I guess.
everandel
Drug tests depend on the company policies and the type of job you are applying for.
Peter
Wating? Drug tests usually take 1-3 days. The position I have now did the dug test on the spot at the medical center. THey got results within 15 minutes of me taking it.

I suppose the background of drug screening is that in the 90's Federal Law made it mandatory for all DOT regulated companies to submit to random screenings and pre-employment. Drug Free Workplaces followed pretty quickly. It's a tool companies use to combat many things as studies have shown individuals who use drugs & alcohol are less productive, absent more, etc. (not saying I agree or disagree)

I used to work for a drug & alcohol testing consortium. It exploded with business with the change in law. I would say 4 of the 5 companies I worked for since then did drug screening.
