My Fiancee arrived a couple of weeks ago I went to register her for ESL classes but they all have already started already more than six weeks ago she will have to wait until next semester.

In the mean tiem I ould like to for her to take some kind of an english class or private tutor something to keep her busy and prepare for when she goes to class in february.

Any one in New York area have any recommendation on what we can do, one one class, anything to keep her busy and learning, we are open to suggestions.

Thank you.

Check with your local library and or a church in your area. I know both of these places have ESL classes and it is worth a try. Good luck.

Very good suggestions...also I would maybe check with the local school system as they might know of tutors who would be willing to help her get a jump start. Most school systems have ESL teachers these days. smile.gif

I am an ESL teacher in Colorado. May I suggest "Living Language.com"? They have all kinds of basic English courses on tape and CD which I found VERY helpful. If you're not too strapped for cash, a very good one to consider is "Rosette Stone.com". . . they have OUTSTANDING courses for beginning English, but the basic courses run to $250 to $400 dollars, if my memory serves me correctly. The most IMPORTANT thing about learning a language. . ANY language, is vocabulary. It doesn't do a whit of good to learn all about the grammar rules if you have a zero of low vocabulary. If she could learn just 4 or 5 new words each day, within a few months, she will have a fairly good vocabulary. Also, use English with her as much as you can at home or wherever.
