The Visa Unit and American Citizen Services Unit of the United States Embassy in Kingston will close temporarily during next month as part of the move to its new location in Liguanea, St. Andrew.

The U.S. Embassy said yesterday it would close temporarily to the public for at least part of the week of December 11-15.

"The days closed will be kept to a minimum consistent with a successful move into the new facility," the embassy said in a statement. "Exact dates and times for the temporary closure will be announced soon."

At the same time, the embassy said it was reminding all non-immigrant visa applicants to plan ahead and schedule visa appointments well in advance of anticipated travel.

"This is especially important for those who wish to travel during the upcoming holiday season," the statement said.

Emergency services

Emergency services for American citizens will continue to be available without interruption. American citizens with a bona fide emergency should call 935-6044.

The U.S. Consular Agency in Montego Bay at St. James Place on Gloucester Avenue, telephone 952-0160, will remain open for services to American citizens. Public hours at the agency are 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for American and Jamaican holidays.
