how would you go about looking for a Employment? Using a Employment Consultant. Writing letters. Would you do Full time first or do part time. Not sure which way to start looking.
Give me your experieces and feedback

I got my job from a friend of my hubby who's at the time looking for a part time - someone to just fill in.. and one year later i'm still with them




Try monster.com and post your resume there.. it's quite good... depends on your experience... and your financial situation... temp, part time of full time is what is right for you.. (i'm a part time but work 35 hours a week)

I signed up with a temp agency so I could get a reference here in the US... I was only with them for 2 placings as the 2nd employer offered my a full time post... I am still with them now 1 year 2 months later...

Went through temp agency - might lead to permanent position.

Other than that, try to send resume on openings posted on monster, hotjobs, or similar websites.

New immigrant might face disadvantage because of lack of US work history, but I am sure you will be able to find something. Good luck !

Temp agencies are the way to go. Kinda sucks to have to go that route, but with no references you get kind of screwed as an educated immigrant. Unless you have some kind on advanced science degree... One thing I have learned during this whole process is that the US is the land of opportunity only if you have no education and can work labor jobs...at least in the short term.

All good advice. A lot would depend on what city you are living in and what training or skills you possess. Temporary agerncies can find a place for you but if you have a specialized skill then look for those companies that use that skill and call their p[ersonell department

It all depends on your skill set, Temp jobs, contractor, they open ways to get references, meet new people on a professional level, it may not be what you are really looking for, but in the short term you will learn and get valuable experience. I posted my resume on Monster.com, My phone kept ringing non stop from the Consultants, They are screening you but at the same time you have to screen them, not all of them are genuine, after awhile it becomes really easy. I even went to take a few adult education courses in the IT sector, the professor gladly offer to use them as references.

My skills are mainly in Retail. I have worked in that field for 25 years. Out of that i have been a Departmental Manager for 14 years in different areas of Retail. A little Clerical expierance as well. I'm very adaptable in what i do.

I would HIGHLY recommend a temp agency, as many companies will eventually hire you permamently.
My husband was looking for work for a while with no bites, despite his CV being a nice, strong one.

After a few frustrating weeks-my sister recommended a temp agency (as they both have the same occupation and she was able to find her current position this way).
Fast forward 2 weeks, he began working and eventually secured a permanent position 5 mins from home, with a 401K, and health benefits.


Start by sending out your resume to as many temp agencies as possible and trust me-you will get calls.

If you want to work in retail again I think that these are the easiest jobs to get especially with so much experience.
