In the Packet 3 information they go to great lengths to explain the Photo Format for the fiance/e visa interview even going as far as to list professional photographers who are capable of producing such photos in the correct format.

Am I to believe then that a standard passport photo machine does NOT produce the required format? They do not say anywhere in the literature that a passport photo machine (like the ones you find in a chemist) will produce the correctly formatted photo and can be used.

Does anyone know if they can?

Thanks

The standard passport photo is the style required. If the machine produces acceptable photos for a passport it will suffice for the visa.

Standard passport size photos outside the U.S. are smaller than the 2 inch by 2 inch photos the U.S. requires, though. So many of those machines won't give you what you need, actually. The machines in Europe, for example, produce photos that are not 2 inches square.

You could create these photos yourself with a digital camera if there isn't a passport photo place you can get to that will do the 2 inch square photos.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I should have pointed out that I am in the UK so want to know whether I can use a standard UK passport photo machine to produce the required photo size for my interview at the US embassy in London.

I'd go to one of the photoplaces they suggest. They probably give you the addresses for a reason.
I don't know for the UK, but here in Holland the passport photo size is different than what's needed for the US visa, and not only that, but you need to make sure your ears show, no hair is in your face. I was even told not to smile, because some people had had their photos denied at the visa interview for smiling too much (they might think it disfigures your face or something). Why risk having the photos turned down and delay getting your visa, when you can just go someplace and get it right? That's my 2 cents.
