We arrived to Juarez on sunday October 29, my husband arrived to El Paso airport and I arrived to Juarez airport. He took a taxi in El Paso to Juarez airport, since Juarez is such a dangerous city, specially for women, he decided to make wait for him in the airport. He paid 60 dollars (!) from El Paso to Juarez and another 20 from Juarez airport to the hotel.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express…nice hotel. 70 dollars per night, breakfast included and close to the consulate…around 4 blocks. There is a Sanborns door to door, Sanborns is a popular Mexican restaurant with a nice shopping area…delicious food and not expensive. Mc Donalds, Burger king, Wendy´s and a lot more fast food restaurants, two malls, “Pockets” which is a Sport bar with pool tables and a lot of restaurants and bars,, we recommend you “Chamucos” (free bar thursday and friday nights for just 15 dollars) and “Cananas”.
The food is really bad there, you should go to fast food (you know the American franchises) or Sanborns…it´s guarantee of good food.
Medical examination
We went to the blue one, next door to the consulate at 7 am: blood test, then you go to a private room, get naked (like the day you was born) but with a little blue robe. The a doctor size and measure you and take a look of your body, asking a lot of questions at the same time. I got lucky, my doctor was very nice. Then X-rays and that was all for me. Done at 9 30 am. And picked the results up at 2 pm, in a mysterious black envelope. $155 dollars.
Consulate Interview
Arrived at 7am and there was a huge line already. Some people told me (before the trip) that doesn´t matter the place in the line but, according to my experience, you should go there as early as you can. We arrived at 7am and I was one of the last person to be interviewed. That sucks!!
You are going to security checkpoint, just like the airports. Girls…don´t bring makeup with mirrors L not mention cellphones L Then you have to give your appointment letter to a lady and wait to be called, first to someone who is going to put in order your documents, second the fingerprints and that´s all in the first building…the worst is the second building…
First of all…DON´T PANIC…you are going to see around 400 people waiting to be call for the interview before you, just be patience. Then you just have to wait to be call for the interview, if you get approved you are gonna have to wait again for the mysterious yellow envelope and your visa. Done at 3:45pm!!! $109 dollars
My interview was good, she was a old american lady, not very friendly, to be honest, she treated me like she didn’t want to approve me, not rude but not warm but it was ok. Anyway, she asked me if went to USA before, how many times and if legal or illegally. When we got married and if I have any proof…I laugh and said “just tell me what do you want to see, documents, letters, phone bills, wester union´s, pictures? Or maybe you want to talk to him, he is outside” She said just the pictures, I handed the church wedding photos with all my husband and my family there, she just pointed some of them and ask “who is this…who is that…” she gave my pictures back and said “Welcome to the United States, your visa is approved”
Then I had to wait until they call me again…those minutes felt like hours…I just wanted to get out of there and tell my husband the good news…so, I advice you to be patience and once you get the visa take your time to check your passport and to make all kind of questions you have, don´t run to talk to your honey!! I did that and I forgot to ask some details and I had to call to the Consulate the next day
We spent 9 days (we took 5 days for vacations) you just need 3 or 4 days. So, if you have any doubt or question…be my guest!!
