little miss.information (a roving worker apparnetly) told me that i only needed my NOA1 for my AOS to get my DL. so, i switched my insurance from home to here, got my NOA1 and assorted other documents to get everything switched. turns out, no, i need my AOS. so now i can drive (the lady said since i have a valid license it's ok - checking with my sheriff friend tho) but my car insurance will be cancelled if i can't get the car registered here. and i can't get the car registered without a DL. aaarrrrggghhhhh why they make the entire process of moving here so difficult is beyond me. so now my car will have to sit without insurance. fingers crossed it doesn't get stolen. i'd rather not sell it, i'd not have brought it here if i wanted to do that.

Do you have an Employment Authorization card, as you should also be able to use this at DMV to get a license?

Also, it SHOULD be sufficient to provide NOA2 (not NOA1) from AOS application

the NOA2 for AOS is the letter of approval that has your greencard attached to it... but the EAD is good to get your DL with...

Is that (part in red) something unique to CrAzystate? I've been able to get TX car insurance with TN licence and registration--and been able to register car in GA with TN licence (and later, MD with GA licence).

not sure about California. I live in Louisiana and that is what the lady told me today. when i get the EAD (1st week in January by timelines but i'm sure that doesn't take into account all the holidays) i'll try again. that still leaves almost 2 months without insurance. going to put it in my friends car hold until then. that way i'l not worry about anyone lifting it.

Can your USC spouse not register then car so that it will be covered by insurance and then once you have a DL you can have the registration ammended...

i thought of that yes. we'd have to pay the tax so that wouldn't make it feasable to transfer it back to me. i guess i'm wanting to hang onto a bit of my independence and the last thing that i own.
