What is the best way to send money overseas, Philippines? I know people have done this, so I am asking for some advice. Thanks

I think it depends on how much. We've sent a couple hundred dollars to Vietnam through Western Union and it's not that expensive- like $12.

I provided my Fiancee with a PayPal ATM card. When she needs money, I add it to the account and she can withdraw the funds. Service charge is $1.00 per transaction. The PayPal account requires good funds when withdrawing via ATM and it takes about 3 days to transfer in.

My bank set up a separate account that was completely electronic and gave me the Card. I sent the ATM Card to her and gave her the pin. I add funds and she withdrawls as needed.
BTW I warned my bank that the card would be used in a specific city in Russia and to not deny the transactions.

I've used Ikobo for several months now. About half the cost of WU and the convenience of the recipient getting a Visa card that can be used in any ATM that can handle Visa. You can load the card with cash on their web site and in seconds the recipient can pull cash out of an ATM--very convenient, as I've had to respond quickly in a couple situations, and it's nice to be able to load and deliver the cash as they stand at the ATM, within 5-10 seconds of loading.

Western Union kind of rips you off coming and going. Before the last trip to the Philippines I opened up a savings account linked to my checking at my credit union and gave Claudeth the ATM card. It was great and the withdrawl charge was $1.50. Her parents now have the card and it makes it so convenient to just transfer money from one account to another and presto, they have the money.

Haven't sent any money since wife got here, but when she was in the Philippines I always used Moneygram and never had a problem.
