Waiting in Vancouver
Well I managed to get my Illinois drivers license today ...

I had to show them my green card, social security card, Canada drivers license and a bank statment showing my current address here ...

I did have to take the written test but the guy told me that they don't require Canadians to do the driving test ... I guess they figure we drive just as bad as the americans do ROFL ...

Anyways it was pretty simple and surprise suprise the guy was very nice to talk to ...

Congrats! good.gif I too just went to inquire about a license yesterday in Oregon. Looks like I just need to do the written test too - but I need to do it within 30 days of actually crossing the border! So I better get to it!

I was stressing about not passing ... My new job I start on Friday required that I have a valid Illinois Drivers license ... I had this vision of failing the test and loosing my job ...

Does the job require driving or just a general requirement from the employer ? Just curious because I just got my license 3 weeks ago (written test and road test) but I started working already almost 3 months ago and it was not a requirement.

It is only a requirement from the employer because they are supplying me with a company car (I will be travelling around alot in the state for work reasons) and they needed me to have an Illinois License for insurance purposes ...

So I guess I wouldn't have lost my job but it wouldn't had put much confidence on my future employer if I couldn't pass a measly drivers test smile.gif

Thanks biggrin.gif
Got it now. The road test is okay, the fact that I have to wait for 2 months to take it was annoying (it's in Indiana).

that was my fear - a long wait (i think they are up to a 6-9month wait in Ontario, down from 1+yr) but the lady looked at me like I had 3 heads and said that they do it right after I take my written test. laughing.gif

planning on next week - need the hubby's truck as my MPH is under the KPH and I don't want to confuse them.

hoping to get a job that I'll be able to ride my bike to (5k away) so even if I do fail, no worries!
