The weather was perfect. And Kirk was too. whistling.gif wink.gif tongue.gif devil.gif dancin5hr.gif secret7vf.gif

Hello Everyone! Hope Everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Rohan- finally got descent treatment at the hospital. They xrayed his hand and said his hand was broken and some bone shattered. Now this part I dont get...They asked him if he want surgery or a cast huh.gif . What person would ask for a cast, but I thought you couldnt fix shattered bone without surgery. Anyway I guess he will wait till he is up here to get some descent medical care for that hand.

I have the same question as Somone, I may have overlooked but I didnt see an answer. How much is that fee the you have to pay to the professional carrier to get your visa. Will they allow you to pick the visa up?

My husband had his interview today and he said the fee was 400 or 500ja. They will allow you to pick up the visa in Kingston but i am not sure on the cost. He jhad the courier service deliver the visa to MOBAY

Congratulations Simone and hubby on getting their visa today!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif

Thank you. I gave my husband experience in the embassy review. He said it was an okay interview. I think it was easy because we had all the information before hand. I followed all VJ tips and guidelines. I even followed the shortcuts and it really worked. It took us less than 5 months to get the visa (from start to finish). I am so happy that I found this website. It was truly helpful. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I want to be helpful. I feel that you guys at VJ have giving me so much and I want to give back - if I can.

I maybe going on but I am so happy right now I can cry! I just don't know what to do with myself.

By the way, did anyone go through Atlanta for their POE?

Andre went through Atlanta. It was a breeze. He said they were very friendly and nice and would highly recommend going through there. He was through in about 45 mins. USCIS doesn't seem to be very organized or efficient, why on earth would they require someone to do biometrics twice?? Jeez blink.gif blink.gif

thanks for the info tho good.gif

Hey Squitto~ At the top of your appointment letter there should be a code...it says code right on there and there should be a number underneath it. What is that number? If it is a 3 they will do both biometrics at the same time. Thats what they did with us.

I guess I got luck with my Jamaican, because other than driving a bit too fast, he's a pretty good driver yes.gif He didn't have to go to driver's school or anything and he passed the written test the 1st time and the road test the 2nd time. (1st time he failed at parallel parking laughing.gif ) My biggest problem is trying to keep my mouth shut while he's driving whistling.gif I'm a bit of a control freak when it comes to that innocent.gif

Good morning rose.gif

I told David that If he drove the way he drove with me in the car he would never pass. I make all kinda of noises when he drives cause I try to hid the fact that I am scared as hell. He scares the living daylight out of me, I I never remembered him driving like that in JA?? It's the only time we argue, it's so funny.
Yaads
Andre thinks he is gods gift to driving and he doesn't need to practice. He went driving with a buddy a few weeks back and he has had the biggest ego since then. His driving scares me to death and I keep telling him he has got to get more practice in the correct way of driving or he will never get his license. He is taking the test tomorrow afternoon and as much as I don't want to be the chauffer anymore it scares me to think that he could be driving alone...not having someone there to say..."hey thats a red light you gotta stop!" laughing.gif

I'm so annoyed...i can't get anyone at the embassy to email me back. I am using

[Dee, lol, I know what you mean by trying to help work problems you barely remember how to do yourself. I probably couldnt pass the GED test now myself without a little touching up. And darned if I havent forgotten some of the easy 3rd/4th grade crap too, like action sentences, telling sentences. action verbs, telling verbs, adverbs, etc. Frankly he remember that stuff better than I!
And darn, I had forgotten how to make fractions into whole numbers, I THOUGHT I knew, (and I did) but wanted to make sure before teaching someone the wrong thing!
American history will be a killer if they make him learn a lot of that, just becuz he studied NONE of it before. I am not sure they require that, you would think world history would be important, but not Am history. He has learned some as he has been here, and I explain to him stuff when we have watched movies and etc, but I wouldnt know zip about another country's history if I moved there recently, it would take me quite a while.

Oh and Dee, all you need to send is a COPY of the bc, keep the certified for when you do the AOS interview.
[/quote]

Thanks.....He woke up again with questions. I showed him the best way I know how :e will take the test today to show where is weak areas are. Trying to tell him not to worry about it tongue_ss.gif didn't do him any good. and I'm going to the library to get math, spelling and what ever else I can fine to help him. I know he won't be in a good mood when he comes come. American History will be a killer huh.gif So I hope not much is required.

I think that I mentioned that our paper drivers license expired in a year, well so did the paper state ID, when we received the real state ID in the mail It did have the same expiration date as on the I94, So I am assuming that his drivers license will be expired when we get it in the mail....WHAT A BUMMER!!! mad.gif WE found this out yesterday at the bank when the lady wouldn't give him any money because it was expired!Well I never looked at it once it came in the mail. sad.gif He was really upset until I told him that He would not have to take the test again. huh.gif

4 way stops and the free right on red are going to be the death of me dead.gif Then don't even mention speeding huh.gif

"yes you can go right on red...only after you have stopped COMPLETELY and made sure the coast is clear."
"you can go right on red but you can not go LEFT on red...even if the coast is completely clear."
"Just because the car in front of you is taking their turn at the 4 way stop you can't just follow them even if you are going the same direction...you have to stop and take YOUR turn."
"Even if it is only you that comes to the intersection you still have to stop completely before going through"
"Even though your buddy hasn't been pulled over for speeding and he speeds all the time that doesn't mean that you can speed and not get caught...think of what it would cost for the ticket and then the jump in insurance. We can't afford that especially since you don't even actually have a license yet"

Wow I guess I got lucky teaching my hubby to drive. I guess it helped that he was scared to death to begin with, never having driven before. I never asked him, just one day he up and said, ok, you get over there (motioning to passenger seat). He usually does that kind of thing when he feels he is ready, I think its kinda charming. hehe The only times I got real upset is when he about took out the garage and he had a whole mile before he almost hit the darned thing. For some reason, he just hated using that brake!!! laughing.gif

Dee, dont worry too much, I was so surprised when Lake first tested, they said he was only reading and doing math at 3rd grade level. I thought WHAT!!! cuz I know he is pretty smart, he loves to read, and is VERY good with numbers, at least in his head. He adds so fast in his head, I usually ask him the totals when I grocery shop, etc. I think it just turned out he was very rusty, (like I said so am I) and the vocabulary thing is a case of being around folks that if he ever used bigger words, they wouldnt understand them. So he had no reason to, and it "dumbed him up" I guess you could say. Kinda sad. Anyhow, its only the third week of taking lessons, and he is doing pre GED stuff already. Altho vocabulary is tuff, he says he memorizes it, then forgets it pretty much right away. He studies it constantly tho, when he gets home he works on his math or reading for about 3 hours every night. I am surprised and happy he is taking it so seriously, but he grumbles about in his country if you want to go to college, you DONT HAVE to go backwards first! Thats how he puts it. tongue_ss.gif

Oh and happy birthday Squitto!!!

Lucky yes.gif

A few months before Andre got here he bought a drivers license and drive I think a total of 2 times. This really messed him up honestly cause he is turning into the wrong lane because he is used to the car being on the other side. Like I said earlier it is also an ego/pride thing. He wants to be the "shotta" as he says and feels that he can be...but they have skills and experience...they didn't drive like that right out the gate and you can't drive like that here in the US. It is also really hard to take lessons from your wife. I understand all that but we can't afford lessons so that is what we have to do. I am hoping that he will be knocked down of his high horse at the DMV and told he needs to study and practice some more. It would be good for him to hear it from someone in authority and not from the wife all the time.

I'm glad he is taking it seriously as well, He is very smart and learns quickly its too bad he had to drop out at such an early age. I'm sure he will progress fast. When I mentioned the library, he was like why didn't you mention it before so that he could be repaired huh.gif telling him that it is a pretest didn't help.

One other issue is that when he speaks broken english at home, my three year old is picking it up. I tried to say it as nicely as I knew how, but he took it the wrong way. Last night he kept yelling (cause he was up stars) at my son to turn the "pipe" off , well after a few times, and he never repsonded, I said tell him to turn the "water down" no it's a pipe blink.gif I said well turn the facet down, he's like what's a facet? I picked up those bad habits a long time ago. I get strange looks sometimes blush.gif I never thought I would have to "translate" so to speak with Andre and others but I have had to do it a couple times. Last night he kept yelling (cause he was up stars) at my son to turn the "pipe" off , well after a few times, and he never repsonded, I said tell him to turn the "water down" no it's a pipe blink.gif I said well turn the facet down, he's like what's a facet? I'm like he understands "facet" and "water" but not "pipe" We have these issue with the kids often. At times I want to let it go cause I rather not argue, but when my three year old is asking everyone to tie his "next shoe" I start to wonder???

laughing.gif Next shoe, That's funny.

Yea I couldn't stop laughing.

When I cannot understand him. I had to get in the habit of saying, excuse me dear, honey or what ever what did you say or do you mind repeating that? and stop saing huh??? (how do you spell that by the way) huh.gif Because when he says (huh) with his jamacian accent, It annoys me, I translate it as " I REALLY DON"T WANT TO BE BOTHERED DO I HAVE TO SAY IT AGAIN" Trying to get him to do the same. He still hasn't wacko.gif

We had a great time. My mom and sis were outta control. I want to go back by myself (in June) so that I don't have to keep an eye on them all the time. You know when rookies go down there how it can be.

The weather was perfect. And Kirk was too. whistling.gif wink.gif tongue.gif devil.gif dancin5hr.gif secret7vf.gif

Hey Jill I just saw the pictures you posted on the yahoo site, the pic of Kirk and your mom is too cute...Looks like she was having a blast. Was that the 1st time she met him?

Joanna

That pic was from last year. July 2005. That's not really their first meeting...they met at the airport. And he hugged her the second he met her. She loved him immediately. He called her mum the second he met her. They actually are pretty tight. smile.gif

Thanks ChristineJames.

My husband asked me today what to bring with him to Atlanta.

What did you guys tell your SO to bring? Should he pack ALL his things (even the stuff that I'll hide somewhere deep in my garage)?
Sbys
How did I miss this?! Congrats Simone kicking.gif kicking.gif

Happy Birthday Mrs. S !!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

some good news about our tourist visa fiasco...

the mother is going to the embassy on Monday morning to meet a specific woman for a reevaluation of our tourist visa application!

we finally got through to the lady at the embassy today and spoke directly to her. She couldn't tell us what would happen...but we made the arrangements for the reevaluation Monday.

cross your fingers for us.

That sound very promising. I thought it was easier for children to get their visa. especially school age children because they could go with the schools to get it all at once.

you'd have to read about the whole fiasco that happened to us with our DS230 application when we were doing the K1. To sum it up...we evidentally put his daughter on a "potential to immigrate" list by having her name on the DS230 as "coming to the US at a later date"...this caused her first tourist visa interview to be denied.

We've been emailing and calling...so hasn't our congressman...to try and make them understand that there is no intention for her to immigrate and that the question on the DS230 was way to vague...

So they say that it will be reevaluated....MONDAY! Finally.

I cannot remember who, but someone here filing for a different kind of visa had to do blood test, in order to prove parternety. I need to know what kind of paper work to file in order to get this done for Davids daughter, Will I have to start all over with a different type of Visa? Any input would be greatful.

We answered the same question too. I thought it was just for information purpose only. My husband has two daughters outside our marriage. We were hoping that once things were settled they would be able to visit us here. Have we ruin their chances?

I'm so annoyed...i can't get anyone at the embassy to email me back. I am using

consularkingst@state.gov

is that what you all have used?

Good luck. Try sending it daily blush.gif

I have never gotten a reply in the same week.

I agree...send it daily and include as much information as possible in your emails. It usually took about 7-10 days to get a response and I think if you send it over an over they get kinda sick of you and will respond. Its worth a try yes.gif

I have sent about 4 e-mails and got responses to 2 of them....I usually got the response e-mial on mondays...seems to me that they come in on mondays and respond to all the e-mails...wait till sunday night and e-mail them...maybe they will get it monday morning and respond...just a thought

Good evening everyone,

Well mom and I just got back from looking at places to hold the wedding and now I am torn between 2 places, I guess I just have to start figuring out prices and what each place has to offer since I like both of them. One is a Wyndham Resort which is very nice and the ceremony and reception will be nice and elagant, and the other is a Doubletree Castle hotel that has a whimsical castle feel, it is neat and will have a unique flare to it. So I am very confused right.

Anyway hope everone had a great day!

There is a Wyndham Resort in Jamaica and it is very nice. Maybe you can get a trip there if you have your wedding there. I'm sure you'll know what is right for you so don't sweat it. Relax!

Yeah the Wyndham does offer a free honeymoon if you have your wedding there but you have to spend at least $12,000 in food and beverages, I dont think we will even come close to that no0pb.gif
Both hotels have thier pros and cons, but it will probally come down to who ever offers is the best price!!

Good morning, all!

Glad you had a good birthday, Squitto!

Well, I think my poor hubby went from having two jobs to none. Sigh...back to the drawing board...not only that, I turned down an interview day before cuz I told them I thot he had a position already. The lady hasnt called us back, but I worded things badly when I called an left message, making it sound like he only wanted to work there, til he got a job elsewhere.
What a dunderhead. I realized what I did soon as I hung up. Well, like you guys said, not meant to be...

Sure is quiet in here with Rhonda on 2nd shift. sad.gif

Please wish me luck, on April fist I will be sending out my I130, my husband just left after 2 weeks of vacating and already I cant live without him. So I am gonna send off the package on Saturday in hopes they get it on Tuesday( according to the website they get a limited amount of mail that day, and what ever is recieved on Tuesday morning gets stamped and opened on Tuesday evening).

Again congratulations and good luck to all.

P.s. my younger sister (21) just took a pregnancy test and it came back positive, she is in denial though, eventhough she has been hoping for this since I gave birth 3 years ago. I am gonna be a Aunt. kicking.gif
