You make me feel a little better. I know to always trust my gut, but sometimes when you are hard up for a job, you get anxious to get started and dont listen to those lil niggling feelings.

Do you ALL feel I did the right thing, or think I am foolish for turning down a good job. It paid 10.50 an hour, which is phenomenal in our area, but I also dont want my honey hurt at any cost. Sigh...

I think you guys did the right thing. The whole thing sounds kinda fishy to me. You don't want him doing anything unsafe, especially when they just told you they were reducing his pay by $1.00 an hour! I work in the Manufacturing industry and we have lots of safety videos and safety classes, but you never have to pass a test about them I'm wondering if those contracts they were making him sign were waiving liability off of them in case he got hurt or something? That's what it sounds like to me. Keep looking and hang in there. Usually your gut instinct is right anyway.

I dont think it was waiving safetly liability, but I DO think it was signing a contract with the staffing agency itself, which I am wondering about. From what I hear, if you working FOR the staffing agency as opposed to the actual company, then your benefits are greatly reduced, and you also might not have the option to quit if you hate it, until a 1 or 3 month obligation or some such. I am not sure, but I DONT like the idea of signing your life away for a job. If you DID hate it, I ALWAYS want the obligation to up and get OUT.

Its probably a job where he would make more guy friends than Lincoln Public Schools for sure, I think custodian might be a lonely job, but they have the opportunity to become supervisory capacity after a couple of years, which pays over 17 an hour, and for here, thats an unreal amount of money. I have never even made over 9.75 myself, in my lifetime, most jobs round here pay around $7. I did check into the local Taco Inn, which is 1/2 block away, and the guy told me they start at minimum, $5.75 an hour!

I am fully expecting a call from the company today and asking "WHAT HAPPENED?" I am sick to my stomach thinkin of what we are gonna tell them. I KNOW Lake is stressed cuz he slept ever since we got home yesterday afternoon. He is taking on MY bad habits, when I dont wanna deal, I sleep it off, and I have never known him to do that.

Sometimes the job itself is not worth the $$ you are getting paid. For something that seems to be really dangerous -- they should be paying much more than that.

Well, Tony I delivered Tony successfully to the airport at 4:30am this morning He made it to Washington DC for his layover and now he's en route to Jamaica. I'm jealous I know he's not going there for a vacation exactly, but I'm stuck at work and he's gonna be in 85 degree weather! This is just one more thing that sucks about long distance relationships. All his family and friends are so far away. I give him credit though - I could never move so far from MY family

This day is dragging . I've been here since 5am And I have to work Saturday too So much for a 2 day weekend!

Jill- I have worked for temp companies in the past. sometimes what happens is they drop the pay based on further scrutiny of the candidate application, or even of the candidate themself. Sometimes what may happen is the job they were going to offer is no longer available and they offer them another at a lower pay, or another he may be better qualified for. Either way that is a dangerous job, sometimes we dont pay close enought attention to those feelings and wind up in trouble. If your or your hubby still wants that job however, it would be better to contact that company directly and find out if there hiring. That way he gets the benefits of working with that company and maybe even a union.

Tennika - yeah, one of the websites listed in packet 3 will produce a barcode on the form. Maybe someone else can post the website, otherwise I can look it up when I get home.

No he is not on that ship, I am talking to him right now, he is on the Celebrity Summit in the middle of the ocean some where between Hawaii and California.....He did fine his 1st night as a bar server but he thinks he didnt do very well. he did make more money last night as a bar server then he used to as a poll butler...I told him it will only get better and he will start to make more

Big up to everyone else! There is just so many of us now!

Well I am surviving. Life just send you for a loop sometimes. Andre went for his drive test yesterday but we found out the brake lights weren’t working so they wouldn’t let him take the test. He is rescheduled for next Thursday. Still doing the job search thing. We are putting a resume together as we speak. He is currently doing some side work for a couple from church and it’s paying $8/hr so that’s a good start. It’s just sporadic and nothing that will last long but it has boosted the spirits. The only part that is bad is that I am now a full time chauffer shuttling him all over the place and I think my job is getting a little sick of it to be honest. He needs to get his license quick. Well this weekend we are putting up a 300ft fence for the dogs…the garage is just not cutting it and now that Andre is working in the days we really need something bigger and outdoors.

Actually, I don't wear socks so I know he got it from me -- but I have lived here my whole life and I am very used to the cold. He said it doesn't bother him -- BUT, he does wear one of those "Nanook of the North" hats -- you know the ones that come down and cover your ears -- his is olive green and lined with rabbit fur....it's a sight. I WILL take a picture!!

I bought Tony a bike too like Mindy mentioned and that seemed to help a lot. At least he wasn't totally stuck without transportation. Hang in there, it gets better, I promise Even the small things will make you so grateful when they happen. Like when Tony finally got his license and we needed to pick up something for dinner or from the store and I could send him instead of ME always having to go. I am so upset and mad My boss just told me today that starting this Monday, I have to go to afternoon shift I HATE afternoons. I will never see Tony or any of my family or friends for that matter. I have had enough of this damn job. The lady that is on 2nd shift now is coming back to days because she has "issues" with her babysitter and her kids. That's not my problem! How come I get punished? Life sucks

Have you tried simply telling them no. I find it intrusive and insulting that some jobs think they have this right to uproot you from your fixed schedule. I find simply sticking to a firm but polite " I am sorry , about ______ problems she is facing, however, Im sorry but I cannot change the times I am working on a short notice like this. Are you under some kindah of contract where your employer reserves the right to change you hours whenever they feel like it. Unless you are I dont see how they can fire you, becuase you have other obligations. Of course though you would never want to risk it, not while going through this process.

Well I just got back from a day with my parents we checked out 2 hotels for the wedding a Doubletree and a Wyndham....To start our appointment at the Doubletree was at 10:00 and the lady did not meet with us till 10:20 so that started out with a bad vibe..the hotel was nice but I just didnt like the sales lady (or shall I say girl) she was very young and not very informative...I really was hoping to like the Doubletree because of its location, but the sales girl really disappointed me so I will not be having the wedding there...Now on the other hand I really loved the Wyndham, the sales lady was very nice and very very informative....I am hopeing to have it there but it may be a little out of our price range..but we will see....I hate to say it but I know my parents will pay for what ever I want but they are really wanting a pool put in at thier house and I dont want to take away some of thier pool money for my wedding .

So anyway enough about wedding stuff...hope everyone has a good weekend!!!
