This is still confusing me. I was told no ssn until they are authorized to work. But once they have their green card they are technically authorized to work right? So when they get gc I can apply for ssn for them? Is this right?

I think the answers to your questions depend on the ages of your children. I think children need to be 16 years old to work in the U.S.

A "green card" usually means work authorization. If your children are too young to work, they would get a resident alien card.
I Quit
Once a child has an EAD card or I-551 stamp or card they are eligible to be assigned a work authorized SSN.

There is no age requirement to be assigned a work authorized SSN. You have a document that authorizes you to work you are eligible to be assigned a work authorized SSN.

This confuses me. What is that? lol
I am just wondering about taxes. Also doctors/dentists etc always ask for it.
So once AOS is approved they can or can not get a SSN?
They are 10,10 and 12.

Documents that establish lawfully admitted for permanent residence (LAPR)

-- I-551 card

NOTE: Some LAPR aliens have conditional 2-year I-551s (Alien Registration Receipt Card), subject to the limitation that they must apply for removal of the conditional basis 90 days before the second anniversary of the admittance date to the United States. A conditional I-551 is identified by an expiration date 2 years later than the admittance/adjudication date is acceptable proof of permanent residency.

-- Temporary I-551

Temporary evidence of immigrant status is issued for an alien to use until the permanent I-551 card is received. This may be a stamp in the individual's passport or on the I-94.

pnd,

A Green Card is the resident alien (LPR) ID card. A LPR is authorized to work in the USA.
