Just to prepare myself for the 15th of this month (my first time calling in to harass and see if I've had an interview scheduled

,) do I call NVC or Montreal, or both to see if they have scheduled me? I'm going for the CR-1 visa, so I know NVC books the interview, but wasn't sure which place to actually call......
Yay for NVC!I was dreading the thought of having to bicker with the famous Mrs. Nasty that always seems to pick up the phone at Montreal to make peoples lives miserable

Just an FYI as far as I know.......the magical 15th date is for CR-1's being scheduled through the NVC. When Montreal schedules the other dates , well , that's as good a guess as any. Ours was scheduled at the beginning of the month...I wanna say around the 8th ( of March)

On that subject... I called NVC last night and asked about whether I had been scheduled (I knew I hadn't yet.. but wanted to see if they would give me a timeline on when I might be scheduled,) anyways, they said I would be notified by mail when I was pencilled in. Is that true? I was hoping it would also show up on the automated voice response system there. Waiting for it in snail mail will probably drive me to insanity lol

What we all need to remember is that the last batch of people we saw get interviews were mostly people with P3 dates in January.... which means right now Montreal is probably scheduling those with P3 dates in February. And, if you take a look at VJ timelines, there aren't many of us here that fall into that time frame. So I'm sure Montreal is going at the same pace as usual, we're just not seeing it is all.
Yeah. I sure hope you're right (and hopefully they are actually scheduling people with P3 in March rather than just February!) It's kinda disappointing not to see any interviews being scheduled. Hopefully another big pile will be scheduled soon!

Im just curious to find out how many K visa cases MTL might be dealing with on a particular month.
So far I know that the NVC case number assigned is Consulate(MTL) Year(2007) Somekindof modified Julian date(I wont put my number here for privacy reasons) and I think the number of cases that were processed for that day(26petitions?)
So Im assuming that in Feb, the day when when NVC processed my application there were 26 cases sent over to MTL? I am still not sure if the last 3 digits are the total for the month or the total for a given day or 26 for the week. Im thinking its 26 for the day. Any ideas?

I wish I knew... Even if they told us how many petitions were before ours, it would be nice. Then it would be easier to count down to our time... Or maybe it's better left a mystery.

Update::::
Nothing for us to add time wise since we are still where we were last time our position was updated.
On a side note I went to my family doctors at the request of the Consulate doctor to clarify certain matters, which was done rather quickly. Now my family doctor has to type everything up and get it off to the Consulate doctor. We are hoping that this will be the end to the medical examination, which started on June 7th and I will have the documentation in my hands by at the latest mid August.

<rant>
Does anyone else feel like they're being failed by the State Department? I develop software so I work with foreign citizens all the time. This morning I interviewed a visa holder from India. Last month we brought two people in from Brazil. At USCIS you can pay a fee to have a work visa expedited. At the state department you can use NVARS to schedule interviews and again you can pay a fee to expedite your interview. The expedited interview process doesn't apply to K visas since they are scheduled by the NVC.
I believe in using foreign labour. It's tough not to in the industry I'm in and I am not concerned about my job safety because if a foreigner can steal my job so can another US employee.
What I am very frustrated with is the fact that it's a longer process and there is no fee based acceleration for family visas. The government as a whole should be more committed to uniting families than it should be with foreign work. I understand that large business will obviously petition for faster visa timelines because it's in there best interest to reduce time to delivery of labour. What I don't understand is how the K visa process is being left behind. It should at least be given similar advantage and not de-prioritized below other visa types because of lack of corporate sponsorship.
Is there any way that we can raise awareness about the situation in Montreal, and for that matter the service centers where people can pay to jump ahead in line for other visa types while K visas wait for someone to get around to helping them?
</rant>
Sorry for the rant... I'm frustrated with this whole process. And working every day with offshore labour.

Hi all
Can anyone clear up some confusion for me? Does the NVC schedule Ir-1 interviews that take place in Montreal - or does Montreal?
And I also have a K-3 limping along which would go to Vancouver - but from MarknAshley...

Does that mean they aren't accepting any new K visas right now - even ones that would be coming directly from NVC? That might explain the mysterious hold-up in K visa approvals. Where did you hear about their 'staffing shortages'?
Thanks

NVC schedules CR-1 and IR-1 interviews with Montreal. Vancouver is still doing K visas within their provincial districts (everything west of... whatever the cutoff point is -- I'm not sure?)
I think the "staff shortage" line is that Vancouver isn't accepting transfers without a valid reason (i.e, that you're moving or going to be out west for an indefinite period of time) and probably because they're possibly short on staff during the summer months. This shouldn't really affect those who are within district of Vancouver though.

hi Misa!
Yeah, I meant hold-ups at the service centers, VSC and CSC, not in Vancouver. I was thinking that if for some reason the Service Centers knew these consulates were backlogged, maybe they were holding back on moving the K visas along. Probably a crazy thought - but I'm grasping at straws to make sense of what is going on! A lot of us are still waiting for I-129F approvals which seem to have come to a complete halt all of a sudden, while our I-130's have been zipping right along. I did see a post floating around today that CSC has just issued some kind of statement that they're going to be catching up as of July 20th. Nothing at all about what is going on in Vermont, though!
misa
Jul 14 2007, 11:20 AM
Maybe the service centres are also experiencing summer shortages with vacations and such? So hard to make sense of this all sometimes. Hope the service centres (and consulates) start speeding up for everyone!

Well, IF they are processing for February now, MAYBE we'll get an appointment sometime this year. It just irritates me that we submitted our packet in early December, and not until MAY did we discover that they had only processed it as of February. We were told back in January that our information was in the system THEN. NO ONE there has any idea where their buttcheeks are I don't think.
Oh well, we'll see.

Yup.. totally understand your frusteration. What a waste of 2 months. In my opinion you should have been scheduled in for an interview in May/June. Hopefully August. I will call again next Friday and see what they say.
