Thanks riblet! Yes, I actually waited until October 23rd/06 to mail the checklist (over a month after Packet 3 was received!). I felt hesitant sending it without having my police record and medical booked. To be honest, my fiance and I didn't think that it would take this long, so we weren't really in a rush to send it as well. Now I'm totally regretting it!

I'm going to follow up w/ Montreal again this afternoon to check the status. Wish me luck!

Hey amarceau. Well, I had been calling the NVC automated line almost everyday but nothing ever was updated. It kept saying to wait 8 weeks for more information after the completion of the case. So, on the 15th I got impatient and called to speak with an operator. I told her that we hadn't gotten an interview for March and that we really thought we would have heard by then and I asked her if she had any clue when we would get one. Since I'm pregnant with twins we're on a serious time crunch here....I need to get my husband here. When I asked that she said that we already had and interview and gave me the date. She told me that a letter had been sent on Feb. 13. So, they had set the interview probably 3 days earlier and the automated line had not been updated.

We got packet 4 on the 17th of February for Montreal and it contained about 20 pages. It had a list of everything we needed at the interview paperwork wise, gave the interview date and time and told us how to prepare for the interview. It also contained information on the medical exam and where to go for it.
That's about it. We're really excited. We've got 3 weeks left. I'll let you all know how it goes on the 16th of March. Good luck to you, I hope you hear something soon.

I thought that you're just supposed to get there when they open, and that it's on a first come first serve basis. However, I've been given a specific time. Any thoughts as to what time should I try to get there?

My interview letter arrived!! Pencil me in for Monday March 19th @ 9am!!

My head is spinning! I can't believe I just typed those words. With only 18 days to prepare (get all documents in order, rent a car, etc...). I'm all in a tizzy. A good tizzy - a GREAT tizzy! But a tizzy, nonetheless. My life just went from slo-mo to fast forward!

Yeah... somehow I procrastinated for an entire month. Which is really horrible of me considering how long we've already been waiting. Seriously though, February hardly seemed to exist at all it went so fast for me!

did I miss the part where Amy and Brian told why their I-129F took 4 months to reach the NVC? WTF I woulda been stark raving.........

If I recall correctly, their file just didn't get transferred for that time, they don't know why. I've seen it happen to a couple of other people, it would be incredibly frustrating.

That's one of the reason I'm still keeping the K3 going... I feel guilty for using extra resources, but if something goes wrong and they lose our CR1 file or something, I want to keep my options open.

I wouldn't feel guilty at all. All the bs and lacking of competency that goes with govt processes , they pretty much force you to cover all your bases. You're smart for having a backup plan.
After having seen Amy and Brain's time line I definitely don't feel so badly about our current timing.......just goes to show ya ...........no matter how bad you think you've got it , there's always someone else worse off.

About the four months to NVC thing:

We never did get an official reason for it, though it's pretty clear that CSC lost/misplaced our file after it was approved. Unfortunately it took months of back and forth communciations with the NVC, attempts at communication with CSC, and finally getting Brian's congresswoman's office involved to actually get something done about it. Even after that, all we got one day was an e-mail from the congresswoman's office saying our file was now at the NVC. Never any explanations given.

It certainly has been frustrating, but luckily Brian and I manage to visit eachother almost every month which has definitely helped.

well Amy you're certainly a better person than I am.........Im not sure I'd have handled that with as much grace. Me knowing me , i'd probably have tried to phone the President directly lololololol

I'm starting to panic a bit Two CR1 interviews were given 221(g)'s in the last week or so in Montreal. I'm worried that this has something to do with the new Adam Walsh law.

Michael and I were just discussing him giving notice 10 days before his interview, because I was sure he wouldn't get denied... but if it's additional security checks.. that would SUCK

Were those CR-1 DCF'ing by chance?

Not to my knowledge, I'm pretty sure they were regular. The Adam Walsh thing is just my guess, based on nothing much.

Two 221(g)s in Montreal? Are these people on VJ and what exactly did their 221(g)s say? It shouldn't have anything to do with the new Adam Walsh law since your I-130 already went through USCIS and NVC where they are equipped for all the security checks.



Oh, the new law is discussed in the DCF forum. Basically the consulates don't have the proper security checks in place so certain petitions approved at the consulates through DCF have to be sent to USCIS offices for reapproval.

Maybe their petitions left the NVC before the new law was enacted? That actually kind of makes sense. I really hope this is just an anomaly.

They are both on VJ, the users were Fak and the other one was something like Kiyna I think. I was just surprised to all of a sudden hear of two of them.

Now that I've looked at it some more, they have identical timelines, I'm guessing they are the two halves of the same couple.

But I haven't heard of many people having additional security checks from Montreal though. Their case was complete last November and forwarded to Montreal before the USCIS enacted the Adam Walsh thing, so it's possible.

Hmm... the Adam Walsh law is only supposed to affect I-130 petitions approved AFTER June or July something and theirs was approved before that date it looks like. AFAIK, it's really only on the consular level with not having proper security checks done that USCIS and NVC do, so it shouldn't have to do with the Adam Walsh thing.

Now I'm starting to worry! My last day at work is March 15 and my interview (K3) is March 19... ugh!

As of today (March 7) Montreal says that have entered my Packet 3/Checklist into the system.

My fiance happened to call today as well, he was told it would be 4-6 months before our interview, the guy I spoke with said 4 months "about".

They're quoting 4-6 months now? *sigh*

Considering they always seem to be operating on the longer side of their estimates (weren't they just quoting 2-4 recently?), this really isn't a happy thing to hear. Perhaps I'll cave and give Montreal a call tomorrow to see what sort of wacky information they decide to give me.

I didn't end up calling actually. Brian talked me out of it He seemed to be under the impression that the congresswoman's office might be contacting Montreal on our behalf (I don't think so, but he can keep dreaming if he wants )... so he was worried if I called so soon being all "hey, when's my interview already!?' that they might be annoyed.

So I compromised and e-mailed to see if my checklist had been recieved yet. I thought maybe they'd say "Yes, and you're in line for a date which could take such and such time" but I should have known Montreal wouldn't supply any information not specifically asked for. So all I got was a "Yes" pretty much.

I think I might call anyway next week just to see what they say. If I do, I'll be sure to let you know what sort of nonsense they try to pass off on me.
