I just spoke with the MTL Embassy and I my interview is scheduled for Feb. 27th! they received my checklist on Nov. 15th. Not bad, but huge stress waiting for this final interview.

Nope, not here either... They've had mine since November 10th -- and I haven't heard a peep... I've called twice, and both times I got the worst reps possible... When I questioned possible times for the interview all they both said was "Feb or March" and actually hung up on me both times ... geesch... talk about bad Customer Service...

I'm praying for anyone with a K3 to get an interview date... just so that I know there is still like in Montreal... I'm still hoping for March at the latest. My husband has given his 60 day notice on his apt and we are signing a least for a house together for April 1. I really want to be there on moving day

well hubby called NVC last night and they told him my case was complete as of February 2. --FINALLY!
I have a question though, im still waiting on the notorized letter from my daughters father saying he gives permission for her to move, so her case is still not complete. Will they still schedule me an interview or will they wait until her case is complete as well? Or will i have to go back for a second interview when they complete her case, anybody know?

updated shann76 - case complete! Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question - I hope it gets sorted out soon! I'm pretty sure that whichever way it works out, you will both interview at the same time because her visa is a derivative to yours.

I actually had pretty good customer service at the MTL Embassy. I basically called every other week, because I had job offer in the US and didn't want to jeopardize it by the lengthly waiting times.

To give you an idea of my waiting time and experience with the Embassy, I called at the end of November and was told that I could expect an apt. in Dec/Jan. I called in December for an up-date and was told Feb/march. I then contacted the Vancouver Embassy to inquire about a Case transfer and they agreed to allow it. I then called the MTL Embassy and asked them to do so, but was told that they didn't suggested it because the file may not get there in time. They lady was extremely helpful and extended herself to put a "flag" on my case that noted that I had a job offer and would try to get me an appt. at the end of Jan., that was set-up to accommodate the huge back log. Well, a Jan. appt. never happened and when I called back in the middle of Jan. I was told that I had still not been scheduled. They said march at this point but to call back next week because I would likely have an appt. scheduled at that time. I called yesterday, and to my amazement, I was given a Feb. 27th interview date!

My only advice is to try your best at being extremely accommodating to them and to tell them how your case is unique and deserving of their extra effort. Tell them you appreciate the difficult position they are in everyday but that you are just trying to better understand the time line until you get an appt. Keep your cool and kiss their a*s, it worked for me.

I haven't forgotten to update, I'm just sitting here waiting for the certificate from Germany which should be here very soon and the one from the RCMP which will probably take another 3 month if their site is to be believed. The way things are going I will with the RCMP longer than it took to go from beginning to recieving packet three.

Hopefully they schedule some of us K3ers by the end of next week (I plan on calling while visiting wife in Canada for Valentines since they should be done scheduling for March by then).

FYI

I'm a K-1 visa applicant. I submitted my checklist in late December and sent the montreal consulate an email yesterday inquiring about my pending appointment date. Here is my original email and the reply I got today from the consulate. I'm hoping and praying I do get this appn't by April as my wedding is in May.

i read and re-read the very simple response ... but could not help thinking the same thing. i really hope that is not the case. i can't believe this really .... we applied for this K-1 back in April of 2006!

they are probably just booking dates as they become available ... and right now they are working in March.. and eventually April. I still have hope (very little .... held by a very thin string).

I definitely do not read that as meaning that they have already given out all of the interviews for March and April, but instead that they are working on scheduling in March and April now.

Also, they have been known to not tell the truth!

Finally - most people that I've seen don't get notice of their interview date until about 3 or 4 weeks before the actual interview date.

Believe me I know how hard this is, but hopefully we'll all have good news soon

Well folks - I'm very new to the message board but I am sooo glad I found it. I thought there was some sort of problem with our application and were somehow being left behind on the interview scheduling. We married in late August and submitted the I-130 petition in mid-September. Everything seemed to happen really quickly and seemed to be going great. We got out package with the checklist and had all of our documentation collected and sent back to them within days (we had sarted getting the documents we'd need early to expedite the process). SO anyways we sent back the checlist right away via overnight courier and it was received and in the system October 31st (i think thats what they said). So now we wait....We called in December and they rudely said January/February. So still have heard nothing so we emailed them this time (hoping to not have to hear the growling voice at the other end of the line) asking if they could please check the status of our case# (very politely of course). We got the response

What does that mean???? Does it mean they're checking into it and will email us back with the status or does it mean...wait for an undetermined amount of time and we'll send you the letter in days...weeks...months...years??? So now we're kind of left with a decision...do we bother them again (and it definetly seems like a bother) to clarify what we should expect to be hearing and when? Or just sit here waiting...??

I'm just glad thier are others out there who are experiencing the same thing. I have checked through the listing of everyones timeline and the status of their case (feel free to add me if you'd like) but it seems strange that after October 4-5 they haven't scheduled anything else for anyone. I hope those interviews start getting pushed out soon , we'd really like to get this process moving.

Well, I began asking myself, "what percentage of folks applying for K1s, K3s and CR1 (and applying through Canada) are on VJ?" Turns out, NOT MANY. (which is wierd because this is a great resource). I dug through some statistics on the USCIS website and it turns out that in FY2005, Canada processed a whopping 1,172 K1 and K3 (combined) visas, 326 IR1 Visas and 226 CR1 visas.

Which means, boy, Montreal is fast, not slow. And also means, jeez, any wrench in the works slows things waaaay down. With something on the order of 1600 visas to process in (5 days/week X 50 weeks) in 250 days -- means 6 visas per day. Any glitch, any slowdown, any new US policy is going to send a ripple effect wayyy down the line.

I think that we're feeling it.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious . . . just trying to figure all this out.

Montreal isn't the only consulate in Canada processing K-1's and K-3's.............Vancouver can get credit for part of that load.


How did Montreal stack up against other consulates in the world?

Just an fyi in case this was new information: They say it will be 2-4 months from the time they receive your checklist until you get an interview. Grrr.

The instructions in the packet tell me that they will schedule an interview when they receive my checklist.... do i have to have the medical completed before i send the checklist?? That could be a little while. Any info would be helpful!

Just wanted to post an update...we have been waiting for 3 months for our interview in Montreal and we received the following letter today:

Your immigrant visa petition (I-130) was previously approved at a US consulate. Congress recently pass the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, a law requiring that all I-130 petitions undergo a further screening to determine if the US Citizen petitioner has ever been convicted for certain types of crimes. Because of this new requirement, the Department of state has instructed embassies and Consulates worldwide to suspend processing on any I-130 petitions that were filed through a US Consulate after the effective date of this act and to forward these petitions to the Department of Homeland Security's Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for further processing. To meet the requirements of the Adam Walsh Act, every I-130 petition filed since its effective date (July 27, 2006) must undergo an additional law enforcement check to determine whether the petitioner has a criminal record relevant to the act. Consular officers do not have access to and by law are not authorized to obtain petitioners criminal history records, which must be reviewed to establish eligibility under the Adam Walsh Act. Consular officers, therefore cannot run the checks now necessary to approve a petition,

You are waiting for an interview but we are required to send the petition to USCIS for their review and approval. Unfortunately, we have no idea right now how long this action will delay your case. As soon as we receive additional guidance on handling these petitions, we will inform you. Please do NOT submit any documents to us at this time because we cannot proceed with processing your case and any documents submitted may be outdated by the time your case is eligible for processing. We understand that this change may cause significant delays for some families, but it is based on legal requirements that we cannot disregard. We sincerely regret the additional delay and inconvenience this will cause you.

So there it is....

I guess the only thing I can say is that I'm deflated and very disappointed. I was so excited to finally get this mystical letter from the US Consulate - tearing it open to see that big fat interview date....this was what I was let down with instead. "No idea how long this will delay you case" Days??? Weeks??? Months??? Years??? No estimate...no indication of how long this may continue to keep new wife and myself in limbo....

Sorry if this same thing is happening to you, we sympathize. Lets just hope for a quick resolution to this issue and get things back on track.

Darryl -- I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I'm not sure about the timeline -- the I-130 will simply go back to the USCIS for approval and then come straight back to the Consulate? Did you look at the DCF forum to see what others are doing?

Laura -- You'll have time to go to medical school and do your own medical before the MtL Consulate schedules your interview. Ha Ha! JOKE! No, PHOTOCOPY the checklist for your records and send the original (with checkmarks or "n/a" for those documents that do not apply) back to MtL immediately. In the meantime, schedule your medical and get all of the necessary documentation together. You'll have time (but don't delay in getting the paperwork together).


Everyone else -- I call this "Cracking the Code" or "Cracking Up" (you decide). I googled "immigrant visa interview schedule" and downloaded posted schedules for Ankara, Cairo, Singapore, Mumbai . . . Sorted them all in Excel. Each of the four Consulates are scheduling K3's and K1's with either a "6", "7" or and "8" after the 3 letter prefix (in our case MTL) and then the 4 digit year (2006) -- so, everything like, XXX20066XXXXX or XXX20067XXXXX or XXX20068XXXXX is now being scheduled for Feb, Mar and April. In other words, every consulate that I could find with a schedule on-line are scheduling interviews similarly -- it seems like the "6", "7", and "8" numbers are up next.

Yes? No? My number is in this range . . . (maybe maybe soon! ) I'm wondering, for those K1's who had an interview scheduled recently, what was your number a "5" or "6"??

Nah, I'm a ding-dong. Turns out that the three-digit number after the year (2006) is a modified Julian Day that starts at Jan 1 = 500 and then goes consecutively to 500+365. Which means that pretty much EVERYONE has a number between 600 and 800. Duh! Oh well. It was fun downloading the interview schedules, though. It's amazing how many of these visas the consulates process . . . I'm still digging away, though. I just wish that I could find a pattern w.r.t. the way that they schedule interview dates . . . sorry to give false hope! I should've done the research before posting . . .

p.s turn out that the last three digits are the number of cases that were generated by the NVC for the consulate (in our case MTL) on that day . . .

Hi riblet. I just found out that I got my interview for Montreal this morning. It is on March 16th at 8:30 for CR-1.

Hey languageladki !! Congrats on your interview! How did you find out ? Did you call ? My CR1 was complete at NVC about 5 days after yours ... I'm hoping for a date shortly Please, Please, Please

amarceau - I hope you hear something soon, but I'm guessing if you check with the NVC and they haven't scheduled yours yet then they won't schedule it until next month. My understanding is that the NVC schedules all interviews around the 15th of each month for the following month. But for your sake I hope I'm wrong!

Well I'm hoping it's good news... I called the NVC IVR tonight and the automated system says that my file (CR1) was forwarded to the embassy on Feb 15, 2007..... I hope that means the interview was scheduled

From my phone conversation with MTL, here's what they told us. (We were approved on 09/30/06, --usual transfer waits in between, contacted 12/03/06 with package, Sent back packet 3 on 12/11/06) Called on January 17th as had heard NOTHING back from them yet... Told that they are running heavily behind on processing, and that they were just now handling July through December processing. We could expect the appointment letter anywhere from 4 weeks to TWELVE weeks from my call date of January 17th. It is now over one month later, with still no word, so they must have been telling the truth

added Alan & Sharon (I think one of the most frustrating things is the inconsistent information we hear...the longest I've seen so far for an interview is 6 months from packet 3, so hopefully that can be the worst case scenario - Good luck!! At least looking at this chart, it looks like you're within the "normal" range for Montreal, whatever that is!)

lol please dont think of my case as being fast, there has been so many delays, RFE's. We first filed our i 130 in september of 2005-yes 2005!!!!!its been almost a year and a half. in fact, our 2 year wedding anniversry is coming up april 9!

i just booked our medicals for tomorrow morning, because i had already got a ticket to visit my hubby for 4 weeks from feb 26- march 26, so its gonna be a busy month for me!
