Was just reading a post from cantwaittogethome, she filed DCF in June and just received word from Montreal that her interview is October 5th.

That seems zippy don't you think? Is this any indication that Montreal is getting faster or just that from time to time someone flukes out and gets a quick interview?

I filed DCF in June and also have an interview on October 5. Maybe October 5 is DCF day in Montreal!

In reality DCF is suppose to be the fastest route.

I assume it is deemed to be faster because you don't have to go back and forth etc etc with NVC - as for the interview schedule though I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference?
flames9
Ihave no clue how Mtl schedules their interviews, BUT I assume (bad to do) that they have so many K1, K3,cr-1/ir-1 and DCF slots each month. I would think there are far fewer DCF'ers than many of the other visa's, thus why they can get scheduled in for interview faster!! and yes the approval is much faster for DCF, since their files dont get sent around to a zillion offices!!

I have no clue how Montreal schedules interview either, but the impression I was under was that, yes, we would save time because we would skip the months of waiting at the service center or the NVC, but that once we got to Montreal, we were put in the same line as everyone else. I just figured it would take us 4-6 months (which from day 1 to what will hopefully be day the last will be nearly 6 months, I think) instead of nearly a year.
misa
I think pre-Adam Walsh act it was SUPER speedy. I remember seeing marriedmylove file DCF and interview in 3 months!
flames9
yep, DCF was way faster when it first started in Canada, MUCH faster than the other routes.
Back in 2004, my Cr-1 was completed in 6 months, now its like a yr!

With my luck I'll be taking Mom and Dad to Montreal next June sad.gif I'm not saying that that's a bad thing necessarily since I've requested the record of Mom's entry and exits to the US under the Freedom of Information Act as well as a few other documents dating back to 1963. In the meantime I'm slowly, inexorably going mad, like everyone else in this forum. wacko.gif

if you have all the documents needed I wouldnt worry about it , you and your family are just goin for a visit right ? things should be fine, and Montreal is a great place to see specialy in june and summer lots of events there ( if you never been there ) hope you guys have a great time yes.gif

Sorry about that, I'm still pissed. My mom and "little" brother (6'1", 245 LBS.) were just refused entry to the US at Pearson. They were flying down to Vegas to see my older brother and then they were all going to return to Toronto. Each had a round trip ticket on Air Canada. That's two refusals for both now. I was told once that a refusal (permission to withdraw application to enter) will have little to no effect on an immigration application (PR via IR5). Does anybody have this kind of experience? If so, what happened at the consulate, were you refused or hassled?
BTW, Montreal is a great place. The last time dear old dad was there was when he went to see Expo so it's been a while.

That should have no bearing on their immigrant visa applications/interview at the consulate. Lots of people here were denied entry to visit the U.S. while in process for various visas. Stacey33 is the first one to come to mind.

What reason did CBP give to refuse them the first and second times? Lack of ties? Were they told not to come back until they had visas in hand?

They gave the classic "lack of ties" bit. I was also refused back in May (their first time, my second) on a Friday and subsequently entered on a Saturday. The officer stated that they should not have been allowed to enter at the Ambassador bridge, on the Saturday. One of the main reasons my parents are getting their GCs is so they can visit my older brother without getting hassled, that and the weather where he is. First time they were refused entry, we were told that this wouldn't be a problem if we had round trip tickets. At Pearson they were told that if they drove over the border there wouldn't be a problem. wacko.gif

It always differs from officer to officer but if they want to try again, have them bring more than just a return ticket. Proof of Canadian employment, school enrollment, residence (apartment lease or mortgage), utility bills, etc.

And since their IR applications are pending, they may also want to bring a copy of their case file.

Mom and Dad aren't sweating it. It's just becoming a royal pain. After Montreal some of this situation will resolve itself. C'mon Montreal, allons-y. Vite, vite. Things aren't as bad as poor Ron's situation though.

I have permission to go to the States after a denial at the consulate, leaving tomorrow afternoon crossing at the peace bridge. I went to the airport in Ottawa and was told I could get a parole from them to enter the States also but the price of flying right now is too much for us so I am going by bus. there was no question about my bringing proof coming back just a reason for wanting to go to the States.

I guess they slack on DCF because "after all" the couples are together mad.gif . Granted, we DCF'ers live together as opposed to K's and CR's, but still.... they should just allow us in cuz' we're freakinnnn fabulous. All of us wink.gif

I'd love to bring it, unfortunately senescence has set in and I can't remember where I put it. laughing.gif I really love the smiley.

I can't believe MTL used "thank you" in the e-mail. They don't even address me, just type in answers on my sent e-mail. I hope that's a good omen. innocent.gif

Whomever was writing to me almost always used "Thank you" in their emails, but then again I did always put "Thank you" in mine and tried to be super polite. lol Maybe the same lady emailed you who emailed me. I only know it was a lady at least once because she was the one who spoke with me and later in the day I received a reply to my email in which see said something about our conversation on the phone.

So, because I'm gonna be pretty bored tonight.. I'm letting you all know I'm probably going to add another column onto our MTL spreadsheet.... oooooh sooo exciting!!

but I won't tell you what it'll be!!

(seriously though, if MTL doesn't help me out soon... I'm going to go )

check back tonight for the latest addition to our spreadsheet!!

PS. how often do you guys actually check the spreadsheet online? Is it bookmarked on your computer? Do you compulsively check it two to three times a day knowing that nothing really is changed cuz "I haven't heard from MTL.. but who knows??!@ Maybe Liz got an email about my case directly from MTL.. so I should check innocent.gif.. just to be safe "

I can't even find the spreadsheet. Will your new column be doric, ionic or corinthian? tongue.gif I look at the embassy reviews obsessively, hoping for good vibes or something that might prove to be useful down the road. In the meantime I try to be silly, since the alternative is an ulcer at the very least. I know it sounds crazy but we all have our methods of coping with the stress. It shouldn't be stressful, the interview is bound to come sooner or later but with all the things the USCIS and NVC have done, one can't help but feel more than a bit concerned. I'm a bit obsessive/compulsive when it comes to these things, but that's how I am.

I actually would love to post Mom and Dad's timelines on the spreadsheet (not really sure how to do this), mind you as IR5s things might be a bit different. I don't phone Portsmouth twice a week anymore, I tried Montreal a couple of times but fell asleep waiting for someone to pick up.

Hey, Liz...good luck on the medical; you'll be fine, given all the advice! My fiance' couldn't get in until the end of Sept. in Windsor...apparently the Dr. that does them was on maternity leave?

I'd take the torch, but I just emailed them last week too; I sure am getting ancy !!! sad.gif

Back from my medical! Took about 2 and a half hours.

All went well..... I got my physical by the Blonde (slightly older woman).. she was nice..
Got my blood done from the Filipino.. didn't hurt. =)
The x-ray woman was kinda pushy though.. she like rammed you into the wall to put you all against it for the x-ray..

I did get an extra copy for $50 and Courier for $20. Oh, and gave THREE passport pics. Yes, THREE.

But here's the real juicy detail: I met a girl in the waiting room. She has her interview in Montreal next month (Oct) and was under the impression that she could enter the US with the K1 visa in like a year or so (not like the 6 months that is true), have a civil ceremony in NY, then fly back to Toronto (on her K1 one time entry visa!!) to continue working (she just signed a 14 month contract @ her new job) and file all her AOS paper work from here til she's a Permanent Resident!

So I told her about visajourney and corrected her on all her misconceptions.
Who knows, maybe she'll even read this post!

And of course it was her fiance in NY that has been doing all the paperwork.. they need to *both* be reading =) to avoid huge suprises like this..

When I mentioned VJ, she asked me if that's like visapro.com, so I said no.. VJ is a community where you can ask questions, read other stories... blah blah blah.. and it's awesome

Edited: for a typo! bad typo! bad typo!
Tinker
laughing.gif Thought of liz trying her best not to shove the x-ray tech back.

Glad you got through it alright.
Makes you wonder what we'd do with out VJ. Hopefully they'll come in and learn what they need to know.

Liz, that poor girl is going to have to rearrange EVERYTHING based on misinformation.

This is why paperwork needs to be taken away from most of the male petitioners and the female beneficiaries need to take charge of their cases! tongue.gif
