I Quit
My wife received her U.S. Passport today just two days over 1 month after she applied at a local Post Office and her Naturalization Certificate was returned.

Couple things, her status never appeared with the online application check, but they got right back to us with an e-mail inquiry. The other is the postage is a big ripoff. When she applying we wrote two checks. One for $67.00 to Passport Services and one for $30.00 to USPS. The passport came in a regular Priority Mail envolope and I think those are $4.50.

Now will apply for the kid's passport and that's IT.

At least for the US$97, you get TEN years validity.

In contrast to Canadians who must spend C$85 to get only FIVE.

Actually the $30 you paid the USPS wasn't for postage.. it was their fee for processing and collecting the info for your passport. If you had applied at your local county courthouse, they would have collected the same $30 fee.
