What have people experienced as far as how long it takes to get through customs once you arrive in the US. We would be coming into Detroit.

It should not take that long to get through customs. I think the real question you want to ask is how long to get through immigration.

As with any POE it is really time of day dependant on how many other international flights are being processed at the same time as your flight. The more concurrent flights the longer the ques. DTW is a big airport but I do not believe they handle that many international flights.

I've heard good things about Detroit as POE. My fiancee came through Minneapolis and it was one hour from the time her flight arrived, to the time she got through immigration, customs and to the area where I was waiting for her. She said most the time was spent waiting in line; that the actual immigration procedure was only a few minutes for them to review her papers and ask her a few simple questions.

I think when your SO is coming from will have alot to due with the time. My husband flew into New York and he was in Immigration for 3 hours. Good Luck to you !

Sometimes we use the word "customs" all encompassly and thus incorrectly. Remember there are two steps to the process at the POE. The first step is immigration (or sometimes is referred to as passport control). The second is customs which is in its most basic form a checking of your "luggage".
