While Im still in montreal I was wondering one thing. I heard you can just have your new married name added to your current canadian passeport. But to get my passeport here I had to show my Birth Certificate, just needed to hand it to them and they gave it back to me right away. Now if i have to send my passeport with BC from the US or anything, to they send it back to you? Cause I have only 1 BC right now and im wondering if I should order another just in case while im here.
Or
If I ever want to travel with my Canadian passport (maiden name) with GC (married name) with my marriage certififcate that would be enough?
Or I could just wait until I apply for US citizenship (3years) and apply for a US passeport with married name and use that one then ( canadian passeport still good for 4years 2 months)
How do you manage this, refering to the women that changed their name after marriage. Kinda confused. I know its just a little detail and the chances that I will be travelling outside US and Canada are very small. But heh who knows...
Another thing, does anyone from Quebec knows how long the Sun card (medical insurances) and driver's license is valid once you move out of Quebec permanently? Kinda wondering since in Illinois I can use my driver's license for 90 days.. So many little details to think about...when is it gonna end! rofl
Thanks a bunch for answers

If you want your married name added to your passport you have to send it to the passport office thru the mail. There are several threads in this forum about how and where to do that.
If you travel by air, your airline ticket has to be in the same name as what is in your passport. If you get your green card in a different name, you may have to carry a copy of your marriage certificate with you when returning to the US.
As for when you get a US passport, you will still want to keep your Canadian passport up to date, even after you get US citizenship. You can wait til your Canadian passport expires until you put your married name in it. For a new passport, you can use your new name, just include your marriage certificate with your birth certificate when you send the application.

My question is do they send back the marriage certificate and the birth certificate back to you with your new passeport? Cause then I would order an additional BC before I leave to the US. When I applied for my Canadian passeport at the office I only had to show it to them so I didnt need additional BC.
Thanks again

'why not get another birth certificate anyway? They are fairly inexpensive from Quebec. I have two of them!

Just a little funny thing that happened to me during the summer....I wanted my BC in english and ordered 2 in english.....to receive finally 2 in french a week later for 30$... Called them up to be told that you cant have it in a different language than it was registered. Sent them a letter with the 2 BC to get a refund (which they normally dont do) and received my money few days later and then got my french BC translated by a certified translator......
So now im thinking I should have kept those..
I guess I will reorder 1 or 2 in french
