well I miss our movies and songs so I was wondering how can I get Tv with our satalitte channels ..

Check your phone book under television or satellite television. Many areas will have a limited choice for different companies. Once you figure out which satellite providers are in your area, you can go to their website and see what they have to offer. Dish Network and DirectTV are the two big ones. Unfortunately, it can get a bit pricey.

Dish Network's arabic package
Direct TV's arabic package

I think you have to get a basic package and add on one of these.

My husband gets some channels (al jazeera, and an egyptian channel) streamed free online, but I don't have the addresses on hand. inshaAllah I'll check with him.

Rhama, how is it you know how to find everything??? lol

My husbands ex brother in law has some Arabic channels, so I know you can find it. When I asked my husband if he will want it as well he said no, that he can find it all on the internet.....we shall see....

Cable seems to be more limited in what they offer. We have Comcast as well, and it's bloody expensive. They just redesigned their website, making it much harder to navigate. We don't have any arabic packages offered in our area that I could find, but in Michigan, they just might.

The downside with this is you need to pay for digital cable (usually around $50), and then add the international package on top of it, which could be another $30 or $40.

If we ever get arabic tv (like when MIL comes to visit in the future), I'm thinkin we'll go for the satellite.

I think the same too the satelite ..But have thier intervet service too so I think I can't do that now!! sad.gif

That's the same reason we're sticking with cable at the moment. If you have a phone line though, many of the satellite companies offer deals for DSL internet service. Unfortunately, we don't have a phone line at our apartment (just rely on cellphones), so at the moment, cable is our only option.
Jenn!
Rahma, be sure to post the URL for free streaming Al-Jazeera!

We pay $10 a month for Wadi to get 2M through JumpTV. They have several arabic packages. Seems a little pricy to me for just one channel, but I couldn't find it for less....

I'm not sure if you can get WOW cable in Lansing but they offer an Arabic channel package and they have internet. Check the website..you can enter your zip code to see if they have it in your area.

Dish Network has the best selection of Arabic channels. International programming is what they specialize in. You don't have to get a basic package to get Arabic channels only, so don't let anyone try to sell you otherwise.

Sorry if this is a repeat... You can check into purchasing a system that picks up free-to-air channels, including a slew of Arabic ones. I don't know how many, if any, are Egyptian channels, though. Legal, and no monthly charge or contract; just the price of the system. Standard disclaimer applies; I haven't used this and I have no affiliation with the company, but this is what I'm researching now for when my fiancé arrives. The stationary FTA system should do it just for the Arabic channels; if you want the free-to-air American ones and some others as well, you'll need the motorized system. This should give you the list of Arabic channels:

This is going to be my next satellite purchase (maybe with tax return inshallah) because it's free (monthly)... It has a Libyan channel biggrin.gif
What sucks is that I thought for a while that I could actual channels from Egypt/Saudi/etc using it and found out later it is not possible. I miss Nur TV sad.gif I think that's what it's called.

Well if anyone is intrested in signing up for Dish Network please let me know as that is something that I can offer in my new business. www.fhtmus.com/amojica this is the business that I started for my husband. So I would be more then happy to help you out. All I would do is help you get teh cretificate number and then you can pick whatever plan or options when you call to have them come out for installation.

Same for us.

This site has lists of channels available online from a large number of countries. The links don't always work but it is a good start.

I've got a pretty decent setup for my wife. Dish has lots of Arabic stuff but you're "supposed" to pay for it. wink.gif You can get a 30 inch dish and point it at 97 degrees west, that's IntelSat Americas 5. Click on that, scroll down to where it says "11749 V" under "Freq. Tp", you can get pretty much everything from that point down for free with a 30" dish (the stuff above that you need a BUD (Big Ugly Dish, 6 foot)).

You need the aformentioned dish, the proper LNB, enough RG6 cable to go from the dish to your TV, and a DVB satellite receiver. You can get used receivers on FleaBay for as little as $50, a new ViewSat or CoolSat with component video will run $170-$200. Also it helps if the south facing side of your house is unobstructed by trees, other buildings, etc. MI is farther north so the satellites are lower in the sky.

Have Mark email me and I'll tell him what he can do. I'm sure he can figure out everything as long as he knows how to use a drill, a compass, & to screw some bolts.

On their website, they list have a flag on the middle east in their flash section on international channels (but I can't link to it, screwy set up). Call you local office and see. When we had the basic digital cabel (200 channels), none of them were arabic.

For watching al Jazeera online, go to this page on their website, select a show from the right hand side, and you should be able to watch it by clicking on the little speaker or video camera.

Buying used receivers can be a risky business as they may be blocked due to prior unpaid billings. I used to consult with Dish and that was a common problem for consumers with satellite transmissions.

The dishes he's referring to are, I believe, what's known as FTA (Free To Air) and they don't carry a monthly charge. Rclouse, correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is what you're talking about. I've looked into it myself and if my tax return is enough this year I'm going to get one... they don't have a whole lot of "quality programming" as compared to the pay systems BUT they are free and as I mentioned earlier you can pick up the Libyan channel which I think Yousuf would like.

2M Maroc is free to air also. yes.gif I think having 2M will justify the initial cost of the system for us, especially if I save for it now before he comes. I've noticed that when I've got 500 choices, I keep flipping around and getting bored, but if I've got all of three fuzzy channels coming through an aerial, I can always find something interesting. A monthly bill of nothing makes those FTA channels look rather attractive, especially when we're first starting out. Frankly, at least in the beginning, when we're finally on the same side of the ocean watching the same TV on the same sofa, it won't matter so much what's actually on the screen. no0pb.gif Cheers!
LuLu
Many places in Dearborn offer the FTA dishes/receivers for purchase. You could probably negotiate on the installation. But check around there. The prob with the FTA is that sometime the coordinates change so you have learn how to change these. Ask around in Dearborn. Also in Oakland County, there is a channel on the Comcast lineup that is in Arabic...or atleast shares time with the Chaldean speaking programs.

Edited to fix typos.

Yes, that is exactly what I am referring to. There are several brands, the most popular are ViewSat, CoolSat, and PanSat.

2M and Al-Maghribia come in completely open and free, and there are lots of other Arabic channels that are the same. There are ways to get some of the others that aren't open and free open and free anyway. whistling.gif

GolTV is a free Spanish language channel on Dish Network. You can get an FTA satellite receiver (maybe even an old DN receiver), point a dish at that satellite (Echostar 8), and watch GolTV without paying Dish Network anything. And you won't be breaking any laws or "stealing" their signal.

Better option to go through Dish network to get your TV channels and get a IOP telephone like Vonage for your home phone and Internet service. Vonage actually can be used to call Europe for free...and if you get a Vonage phone for your family in Egypte call them for free too.... which is nice if you want to call mobile phones not just always use the Net messengers to call....

yep Free to air (FTA) has good stuff, especially if you're interested in watching TV from Arab nations and even have a vietnamese channel on 97 degrees West satellite. I bought my stuff from www.fusionsat.com. Quick delivery. Setup is a cinch just look up FTA on google and you'll see plenty of stuff on the topic.

Free-to-air Satellite.

That's what they *ALL* have in Jordan - get the same channels they do. Why's it not popular here? Well, Dish network & DirectTV of course! LOL! Why pay nothing additional when you can pay monthly fees?
