just curious if any of the NA/ME ladies got an engagement ring? I wasn't sure what the culture is.

No diamond for me.

As my engagement ring I wore a ring given to me by Wadi's family.

It's not necessarily a custom thing, but I made him get me one. Usually the guy buys gold jewelry of some sort, like a combination of a ring, bracelet, necklace, earrings, etc. He wears an engagement band.

Didn't have an engagement ring. We have silver wedding-ish bands we purchased at Khan Khalili in Cairo.

Husband will be buying me a diamond ring of my choosing at some point in the future as an anniversary present, inshaAllah.

From what I've seen in Egypt as far as a ring goes usually it's a gold band worn on the right hand then switched to the left when married. I didn't get my gold band until the wedding. For my birthday I was given a more traditional looking engagement ring. He needed the time to save up the money.

Like Nouna said..traditionally brides get a set of gold for an engagement gift.

We both had engagement rings that he bought. My first one was from Morocco, but I broke it playing on the trampaline. My second one was a cheap silver ring with an amithyst and 2 cubit zirconias that was too big and made my finger break out because there was nickel in it. And my final one I got on my wedding day with my wedding band. I cried when I saw it! Even though I had picked it out in the first place!

I got a ring (among other things) as a wedding gift.

Oh, and to answer the question . . . just gold bands that were engraved with our Initials (sort of, long story, hehe) and the date of our wedding.

He got me a set of gold like Nouna mentioned (necklace, earrings, braclet, ring) and we also got matching bands. It could be different because of the religion though. Its ok for us to wear gold so maybe thats why? BUT...for the wedding i have specifically told him I don't wany another set of gold, I prefer a diamond ring.

We exchanged simple rings for the engagement party (his is a silver band; mine is a gold band with an 'S' of cubic zirconias I believe) and then we will have different wedding rings. He bought mine in Morocco (I wear the engagement piece now) and I bought his here in the US.

I actually have 2 sets of engagement rings! Silver and gold. We went shopping for rings and never found anything we liked, we had to get them made. They weren't ready by the engagement so we had to buy pretend rings, lol.

We went and picked them out together. Very nice, might I add. Eveb though it wasnt all that important to me. He insisted that I get the biggest one in the case. (Even though I didnt) Luckily I didnt cuz I lost so much weight it feel off my finger in one of the boxes when we were packing! I call myself trying to make sure it was big enough for me to wear when we start having kids, you know not cutting off the circulation and stuff. It actually fit perfect, till the stress of the VJ waiting game and moving hit me!

Moving on the 1st, so the ring shall be uncovered then!

It was so funny at the time too! We had this really pretty elaborate set of gold and these cheap silver rings.

Very cute! We have the same thing on our engagment rings but ours are yellow gold.

oh and I have this pic from the engagement party... both our bands, my diamond ring, and my diamond band which im not wearing till we're married.

I tried to talk my fiance into buying me a Diamond ring instead of the gold set for our engagment, he said no way :angry:he insisted it be Gold becuase he said it would make him look bad if he gave me a diamond ring which most people in Jordan would think was fake He promised for the wedding he would though, thank God!

Oh well maybe tomorrow. anywho... It's white gold with a figure eight design in diamonds. I don't do yellow gold and he said the women in his family would make fun of me because they'll think it's silver

He told me a silver on is ok i insisted on the one I wanted for him to have. Well it was a size too big and we had to get it resized before our wedding, we got it done and not once did he tell me that due to his religous beliefs that he should have silver. I was reading on Islam and found out two days after our wedding party. Well the day after our wedding party th ering broke where they had cut it. So these are the rings we used for our wedding and I still have mine but he has a silver ring. When we have another ceramony here for my family we are going to get platnum rings since I think it will work and not violate his beliefs.

No engagement ring here. He didn't have the money. His mom wanted to pass one down that was in their family or something and have it sized for me, but I wanted my own, so I didn't get one.

my engagement ring was gold with a single diamond...real or not, i dunno and duncare:) I have a pic of it somewhere but not sure where ...I'll have to get another pic ... my wedding set is white gold also dunno if real diamond or not but it's fantastic He picked both of them out and I couldn't ask for better choices
